Business Education Teacher, 200 days, CTE Jefferson County Schools, Jefferson High – Shenandoah Junction, West Virginia Starting Date: Aug 10, 2026 Job Description POSITION: Secondary Teacher FLSA STATUS: Exempt EMPLOYMENT TERM: Minimum 200 days annually (per WV Code §18-5-45). May be extended by JCBOE. SALARY: Per WV Code §18A-4-2 and Jefferson County Teacher Salary Schedule, based on experience and education level. EVALUATION: Performance evaluated by the principal or immediate supervisor in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5310, and JCBOE Evaluation Policy. JOB SUMMARY: Provides instruction, learning activities, and experiences that ensure students meet learning objectives and standards for the appropriate content and grade level. Major Position Responsibilities / Essential Functions Plan and implement WV content standards and high‑quality secondary learning objectives, instruct using effective strategies, and provide learning experiences with high expectations. Implement adopted and supplemental academic programs. Develop lesson plans and instructional materials; provide individualized and small‑group instruction to adapt curriculum to each student’s needs. Participate as a contributing member of the assigned department or program. Keep appropriate records and prepare progress reports; collaborate with interventionists, share data, identify student needs, and support targeted interventions. Analyze data to improve instruction and model instructional strategies that promote student achievement. Communicate with parents via conferences and other means to discuss student progress and interpret academic program objectives. Design learning experiences for individual and group instruction. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to create a functional learning atmosphere and provide a safe, secure environment. Monitor an effective learning environment free of hazard, ridicule, and prejudice. Assist with student management throughout the school, grounds, and other JCS facilities. Coordinate parent‑teacher and student‑teacher conferences to review performance, behavior, and related issues. Perform administrative duties such as taking attendance, organizing the classroom, and responding promptly to emails and phone calls from parents, administrators, and staff. Comply with mandatory reporting requirements for child abuse, illegal harassment, ethics breaches, or criminal activity. Communicate effectively with students, parents, and stakeholders verbally and in writing. Account for student achievement and provide grades per the school’s policy. Plan and implement designated co‑curricular activities or programs such as fairs, awards, and field trips. Maintain strong working and communication skills with students, parents, peers, and the community. Foster a classroom climate conducive to learning. Meet professional responsibilities and maintain professional habits as per the Employee Code of Conduct. Show willingness to participate in improvement programs and activities designated by the principal. Enforce School Board policies when appropriate. Maintain a professional development plan per district policies and seek competency improvement. Perform other duties as assigned, including supervisory responsibilities. Qualifications Minimum requirements: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution; valid teaching certificate for the endorsed subject area and grade levels (per WV Code §18A‑3‑2); criminal background check as required by WV law; and meet qualifications outlined in WV Code §18A‑3‑2a. Other Requirements Ability to communicate information orally and in writing. Capability to differentiate instruction and assess student performance. Demonstrated ability to work professionally with students, staff, and parents. Flexibility and adaptability. Knowledge of school safety and security procedures. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Maintain on‑time attendance. Physical/Mental Requirements The job requires frequent reaching, standing, walking, lifting, grasping, writing, talking, hearing, seeing, and using technology such as computers and multimedia equipment. Lifting or moving at least 10 pounds of materials may be frequent. Vision requirements include close vision for reading handwritten or typed material and the ability to adjust focus. The role demands reading, writing, understanding, interpreting, and applying information at a moderately complex level; proficiency in content knowledge at a high school or middle school level; judgment, quick information processing, rapid learning, following verbal procedures, giving verbal instruction, prioritizing tasks, and coordinating records. The position requires managing stress and maintaining emotional control while interacting with multiple people and the public. Additional Job Information Individuals who have retired from a West Virginia school system are not eligible for re‑employment until 60 days have passed since their official retirement date (West Virginia Code §5‑10‑48).
