The UNC Adams School of Dentistry Division of Comprehensive Oral Health houses several disciplines including, Periodontology, Dental Hygiene, Comprehensive Dentistry, Operative Dentistry/BioMaterials, Prosthodontics, and Endodontics. The Prosthodontics discipline focuses on the restoration and replacement of teeth and/or craniofacial structures. Position Summary
The primary purpose of the Dental Technician is to provide advanced dental laboratory technology expertise in support of patient care, education, and restorative and prosthodontic programs within the Adams School of Dentistry. The Dental Technician independently performs complex and highly specialized dental laboratory procedures utilizing conventional and advanced digital dentistry technologies, including CAD/CAM design and manufacturing, milling, 3D printing, and other evolving fabrication technologies. The Dental Technician applies comprehensive knowledge of dental anatomy, restorative materials, laboratory equipment, fabrication techniques, and digital workflows to evaluate complex case requirements and determine appropriate technical approaches. The position designs and fabricates complex dental restorations, appliances, surgical guides, and other prosthodontic products; troubleshoots design and fabrication issues; makes appropriate adjustments to product designs and fabrication processes; and develops innovative technical solutions based on clinical specifications and individual case requirements. The Dental Technician also serves as an advanced technical resource to faculty, residents, and students regarding dental laboratory procedures, materials, equipment, digital workflows, and fabrication techniques. The position provides instruction and consultation on complex conventional and digital dental technologies and develops educational materials to support the integration of dental technology into restorative education and clinical practice. The Dental Technician works under the direction of the Lead Dental Technician and collaborates with faculty, residents, students, and other School partners to support the quality and effectiveness of dental laboratory services. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and two years related work experience; or completion of a two year dental laboratory technology training program; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Management Preferences

- Progressive experience performing complex and highly specialized dental laboratory procedures, including the fabrication of restorative and prosthodontic appliances.
- Advanced experience with digital dentistry technologies and workflows, including CAD/CAM design and manufacturing, milling, 3D printing, or similar dental fabrication technologies.
- Demonstrated experience evaluating complex dental laboratory cases, troubleshooting technical or fabrication issues, and developing innovative solutions or modifying designs based on case requirements.
- Experience providing technical consultation, instruction, or training to faculty, residents, students, dental professionals, or other appropriate individuals regarding dental laboratory procedures, materials, equipment, or technologies.
- Demonstrated advanced training and experience in relevant specialty areas such as ceramics, crown and bridge, removable prosthodontics, or other applicable dental laboratory specialties.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and move items weighing up to 25 pounds, with or without accommodation.
- Requires the ability to perform detailed dental laboratory work involving precision, manual dexterity, visual acuity, and the safe operation of dental laboratory equipment and technology, with or without accommodation.
