Description of Job

The Colorado Department of Natural Resources and Colorado Parks and Wildlife have several seasonal positions available. These positions require effective communication and public relations skills. Below are the descriptions of the available positions:

VISITOR SERVICES TECHNICIAN: A customer service based position that involves working in a visitor center or gate entrance, greeting visitors, or may be assigned to work in the field in specialized duties. Responsibilities include staffing the park entrance station and/or the visitor center, providing information and assistance to visitors, selling parks passes, permits, books, maps, clothing, firewood and other novelties, operating a cash register, answering telephones, photocopying, filing, collecting revenue, balancing shift box, cleaning and light maintenance duties, assisting with special events or programs within the park, and other duties as assigned.

AQUATIC NUISANCE SPECIES (ANS) INSPECTOR: A customer service based position that involves inspecting for invasive Zebra/Quagga Mussels, Milfoil or other plant species on boats and personal watercraft at an inspection point on the park. This is an important position for the protection of natural resources from non-native species that threaten wildlife, drinking water/irrigation and all water related outdoor recreation in the State of Colorado. Responsibilities include staffing the park ANS inspection station, conducting physical boat inspections and boater interviews, providing information and assistance to the boating public, cleaning and light maintenance duties, accurate counting and recording of all boat inspections, training in boat inspection methods, documenting and reporting visitor complaints, and other duties as assigned.

PARK MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN: Responsible for all general park maintenance and cleaning of public facilities including restrooms, showers, vault toilets, campsites, picnic areas, trails, etc. Responsibilities include operating and performing routine maintenance on State-owned vehicles and equipment, assuring quality customer service and facility maintenance, repair and cleanliness, providing information and assistance to visitors, assisting with carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical work and transporting materials and supplies, being willing to work outside during inclement weather, being able to lift 50-75 pounds repeatedly, and performing other duties as assigned.

REVENUE LEAD: A customer service based position that involves greeting visitors, selling parks passes, answering phones, counting cash receipts, and providing information to the public. Work leader responsibilities over entrance attendants. Specific duties include training and supervising entrance station attendants, maintaining entrance station attendants' working files, preparing cash change funds and shift box pass inventories, assisting Revenue Manager with cash and pass inventory audits, reconciling attendant time sheets, shift reports and bank deposits, monitoring entrance stations for cleanliness, working supplies and brochures, assisting with collection of self-service and shower revenue, coordinating Group Picnic process including check-in/check-out, maintaining assigned vehicle, keeping visitors and staff informed of events, schedule changes and notices, revenue report data entry, collecting revenue, completing shift report and balancing shift box at end of each shift, providing information and assistance to park visitors, receiving and passing along visitor complaints, assisting with special events or programs within the park, and other duties as assigned.

INTERPRETER/ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATOR: This is a customer service based position that involves facilitating park interpretive and environmental education programs. Develop and present natural resources/historical related programs to park visitors. Specific duties include scheduling, planning and presenting Junior Ranger programs, school and group programs, campfire programs and guided hikes, outreach programs, providing roving interpretation in campgrounds and day use areas, working with individual and group volunteers, training volunteer naturalists, working with other State, Federal and local agency naturalists, marketing and promoting attendance at programs, developing brochures and other written materials, working the visitor center front desk, assisting with special events or programs within the park, collecting, cataloging, organizing and protecting park collections of slides, photographs, specimens, etc., attending assigned training sessions, and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Must have a valid Colorado drivers' license or reliable transportation. Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and various shifts. Previous experience handling money and working with the public. Computer experience (Microsoft Word, Excel, Point of Sale) is highly recommended and helpful. May need to undergo criminal background investigation. Hours: 40 hours per week, nights, holidays and weekends required. Possess strong interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work with little supervision. May be required to work the entrance station for an 8 hour shift and take lunch in the station.

Pursuant to the DNR-120 Fleet and Driving Standards Administrative Directive, any worker who will be expected to drive a State-owned vehicle is responsible for maintaining a safe driving record and a valid driver license prior to driving any State-owned vehicle. To be compliant with the new fleet vehicle policy, Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs) will be pulled for review for workers who have an assigned State fleet vehicle, are required to operate a vehicle as part of the position, or utilize a State fleet vehicle as a pool vehicle.

Physical Requirements

These positions will perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stopping, and handling of materials. Possibly standing for 8 hours straight on overly busy days.

Work Context

In addition to work activities, below is a list of means and manner of conducting duties in this position: Radio Communication - Radio communication is also a primary means of communication for these positions and used daily. The park will provide uniform shirts and hats. The employee will be required to purchase limited uniform items at their own expense.
