Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic

Summary The incumbent of the position is an Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Equipment Mechanic. The position is established to provide journeyman level work in the installation, maintenance, repair, and operation of machinery and equipment associated with air conditioning and refrigeration trades. Qualifications Required experience and training of sufficient scope and quality, as demonstrated through a detailed resume. Ability to perform the duties of this position, evaluated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. Must meet prescribed screen‑out elements and be rated against job elements such as Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, Interpretation of Instructions and Specifications (including blueprint reading), Materials, Technical Practices, Troubleshooting, Use and Maintenance of Tools and Equipment. Experience may include paid, unpaid, or volunteer work (including National Service programs). Full‑time experience is considered in units of 35–40 hours per week. Duties Installs, maintains, repairs, and operates air conditioning, refrigeration, and ventilation systems and components. Handles heating, cooling, humidifying, dehumidifying, steam‑water, air circulation, filtration, mechanical, pneumatic, electronic, and electrical controls of environmental air conditioning and equipment cooling systems, including temperature‑sensitive systems in blood banks, surgical centers, urgent care clinics, computer rooms, and medical imaging equipment such as CT scanners and cardiac cath labs. Installs, repairs, and maintains ice machines, cooling towers, pumps, various types and sizes of fans, refrigerant flow systems, and other working fluids. Observes and interprets temperature and pressure gauges and recorders. Adjusts manual and automatic controls to achieve proper refrigerant flow and temperature control. Works a schedule of Monday–Friday, 12:00 a.m.–8:30 a.m. Physical requirements include standing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing, and handling large, heavy equipment weighing over 100 pounds and lifting objects up to 50 pounds. #J-18808-Ljbffr
