Custodial WorkerReports to: Assigned Site Supervisor/PrincipalGeneral Definition of Work: Performs semiskilled work cleaning of school building interiors, maintaining grounds, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the close supervision of the assigned site supervisor.Essential Functions:Opens and secures buildingSweeps, strips, buffs, waxes or dust mops assigned areas; cleans carpets; sweeps and mops cafeteria floors; moves tables and chairsRemoves trash from building; picks up trash outside of buildings; maintains porch areasScrubs, cleans and sanitizes restrooms including mirrors, washes basins, urinals, commodes, etc.; fills tissue, towel and soap dispensersCleans walls and removes graffitiDusts furniture, walls, windowsills and other woodwork; cleans windowsSanitizes and cleans drinking fountainsMows grass, weedeats, removes leavesReplaces light bulbs and ceiling tilesHauls books and papers; moves furnitureCleans up spills and sanitizes areas following incidents involving bodily injuriesAssists with overseeing car riding students entering and exiting the facilityAssists maintenance technicians as requiredAssists with snow removal and ice controlPerforms various other tasks associated with the custodial professionThis work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle or feel and pushing or pulling; frequently requires speaking or hearing and lifting and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires using measuring devices, operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities; work frequently requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions; work occasionally requires exposure to bloodborne pathogens and bodily fluids and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).General knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions; ability to read; thoroughness, cleanliness; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
