Supplier Quality EngineerPosition Summary:The Scot Forge Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for the support and improvement efforts of our partner suppliers. In this role he/she is responsible for assuring that each supplier has the processes and manufacturing skills to produce a quality part to support the outsourcing group. Along with the buyer, this role will have strong relationship with assigned suppliers. With an emphasis on repeating work and partner suppliers, he/she is responsible for verifying quality workmanship, reviewing quality documents submitted to Scot Forge, and resolving any discrepancies or defects that may develop during the manufacturing process. Discrepancies and learning opportunities will be collaboratively translated into problem prevention and continuous improvement within the supplier. This role will have responsibility to track and improve the overall quality performance of assigned suppliers. From the wheels of NASA’s Curiosity Mars Rover to mission critical components for nuclear submarines, to large hydraulic cylinders for the largest mining trucks on the planet, Scot Forge creates the precision forged metal parts used in demanding applications all over the world.Essential Position Responsibilities:Work with internal Quality, Purchasing, Sales and the supplier to resolve any discrepancies noted from the supplier and seek disposition of the non-conforming material. Participate and lead structured problem-solving events with cross-functional teams These events may be both internal and external.Conduct supplier reviews and lay out recovery plans when required.Work with the supplier and internal SME’s to develop quality control and inspection plans for identified high risk orders/products. Build and maintain first article, PPAP, or APQP process for supply base.For assigned suppliers, monitor the metrics for quality and delivery and work with the suppliers for continuous improvement. Work with each supplier to assure that they maintain a quality and delivery level that meets or exceeds Scot Forge goals and objectives.Identify suppliers that have reached a quality or delivery that is unacceptable or have had a quality issue rising to the level of very significant and issue a formal supplier corrective action request (SCAR). Upon completion of a SCAR, they must monitor each request for signs of improvement and to assure that they are making progress toward improvement. Aid Production Control and Manufacturing on purchase order status and customer inquiries.Travel to and perform audits of current and potential suppliers, both by visiting the web site as well as meeting with each supplier on site. These visits could result in international travel, and a valid US passport is a requirement. During these visits a formal report showing details of each supplier visit shall be submitted to the Corporate Director of Procurementand Corporate Quality Assurance Manager.Review and verify supplier inspection reports in a timely manner to verify that all material is in full compliance with Scot Forge’s specifications and Quality Management Systems, as spelled out on the Purchase Order and the drawing. Communicate to buyer and suppliers the results of the review.Supplier qualification and maintenance: Working with the buyer, strategically identify and develop new supply sources (domestic and international), ensuring technical capability, quality and product standards are achieved. Hours and Location:Home Plant Location: Spring Grove, IL Hours: M-F 7AM – 5PMUp to 40% travel to supplier locationsQualifications:Education/Experience:BS degree in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering or related degree or equivalent experience2-5 years progressive experience in Quality or Manufacturing Engineering within a manufacturing organization 1-2 years most recent experience in the Metals Industry preferredSkills:Required ability to interpret blueprints, solid models, and inspection reports Exposure to metrology and advanced inspection tools (CMM, Romer, Laser) highly preferred. Significant experience in leading and/or working with a cross functional team on structured problem solving events, to identify root cause and develop and implement positive corrective action or continuous improvement efforts. Strong machining and metal removal experience preferred Moderate knowledge of the following processes: forging, sawing, heat treating, destructive testing, non-destructive examination.Knowledge regarding ERP / MRP functions with JD Edwards experience preferredExperience in a multi-plant manufacturing environment. Willingness to perform quality role with absolute integrity and strong values inspiring and gaining commitment for a course of action that achieves results.Demonstrated continuous improvement skillset with experience in team-based improvement activities that deliver profitability and velocity improvements. Project management skills to develop work agreements, project scopes, specifications, schedules, timelines, and definition of deliverables.Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, including the ability to communicate a wide variety of issues to Purchasing, Manufacturing, Sales, Customers, and Suppliers.Proficient in MS Office.Ability to work safely in a heavy manufacturing environmentAdditional Information:Scot Forge requires all employees to work 100% onsite.This position is primarily located in our Spring Grove, IL facility with occasional travel to plants in other locations as required (Franklin Park, IL and Clinton, WI).Other duties as assigned Must be authorized to work anywhere in the U.S. without sponsorshipMust be able to pass a 90 day head hair drug test today.Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:Position requires a mixture of working in office and occasionally working in production areas while forklifts, overhead cranes and related equipment are in use. On occasion while performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to heat and cold weather conditions as well as wet and/or humid conditions. Production environment may expose individual to excessive loud noise.
