Chief Compliance Officer

About American Physiatry American Physiatry is a rapidly growing healthcare organization providing physiatry and rehabilitation-focused medical services to skilled nursing facilities across the United States. As we continue to expand, we are seeking an experienced Chief Compliance Officer to develop and lead a strong, practical, and scalable healthcare compliance program. Position Overview The Chief Compliance Officer will oversee the company’s compliance, privacy, auditing, and regulatory programs. This individual will work closely with executive leadership, clinical operations, billing, human resources, and outside legal counsel to ensure the organization operates in accordance with applicable federal and state healthcare laws and regulations. This is a hands-on leadership position. The ideal candidate will be capable of setting compliance strategy while also managing the day-to-day execution of audits, investigations, policies, training, risk assessments, and corrective action plans. Key Responsibilities Develop, implement, and oversee the organization’s healthcare compliance program. Maintain and regularly update the company’s compliance plan, policies, and procedures. Monitor compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, HIPAA, the False Claims Act, the Anti-Kickback Statute, the Stark Law, and other applicable regulations. Oversee billing, documentation, medical-necessity, and operational compliance audits. Conduct compliance risk assessments and develop corrective action plans. Lead internal investigations involving compliance, privacy, billing, documentation, or ethical concerns. Manage the company’s compliance reporting and non-retaliation processes. Provide compliance education and training to providers, employees, managers, and executive leadership. Partner with clinical and billing teams to strengthen documentation, billing, and operational compliance. Monitor regulatory changes and advise leadership on their potential impact. Prepare regular compliance reports for executive leadership and the Board. Coordinate with outside legal counsel, consultants, auditors, and government agencies when necessary. Support compliance efforts as the company enters new states and launches additional clinical programs. Promote a company-wide culture of integrity, accountability, and ethical decision-making. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in law, healthcare administration, business, or a related field preferred. Minimum of four years of healthcare compliance experience. Strong knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, HIPAA, healthcare fraud and abuse laws, and other healthcare regulatory requirements. Experience conducting audits, investigations, risk assessments, and corrective action plans. Ability to interpret regulations and translate them into practical operational policies and processes. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with executives, providers, employees, and outside counsel. Excellent judgment, discretion, organization, and attention to detail. Ability to operate effectively within a fast-growing and rapidly changing healthcare organization. Preferred Qualifications Previous compliance leadership experience within a physician group, skilled nursing organization, post-acute care company, health system, or other Medicare-focused healthcare organization. CHC, CHPC, CHC-F, or another recognized healthcare compliance certification. Juris Doctor or healthcare legal experience. Experience with skilled nursing facilities, rehabilitation medicine, physiatry, or post-acute care. Experience building or significantly expanding a healthcare compliance program.
