Director of Fiscal Operations (Non-Profit)

With an integrated neighborhood network spanning more than 100 localized distribution sites, community partner hubs, and housing developments, the organization blends grassroots community engagement with disciplined, high-scale operational stability to sustain vital social safety nets throughout the five boroughs.

Reporting in direct partnership with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Controller, and Director of Grants and Budgeting, the Director of Fiscal Operations serves as a central driver of coordination, project management, and execution across the agency's fiscal ecosystem. Designed for an experienced nonprofit financial leader, this strategic operational role ensures that all grant accounting, contracts, capital grants, and related fiscal workflows remain aligned, tightly controlled, and executed on schedule. The Director bridges leadership vision and daily execution by spearheading critical agency initiatives—including financial system modernization, process optimization within housing operations, and intercompany financial alignment. By monitoring complex timelines, tracking deliverables across diverse funding streams, and removing bottlenecks before they impact reporting, this role directly expands executive bandwidth and strengthens the overall fiscal integrity of the institution.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate, develop, and maintain the daily workflows and project schedules across all fiscal department functions.
• Monitor compliance with critical organizational and funder deadlines, identifying bottlenecks early and partnering with department leads to ensure timely resolution.
• Maintain tracking systems for ongoing fiscal projects, registrations, approvals, and contract submissions.
• Partner with the Director of Grants and Budgeting to maintain the master grants tracker and supervise the cadence of grant reporting milestones.
• Collaborate with the Controller and Director of Grants and Budgeting to establish and uphold internal controls, fiscal policies, and operational best practices.
• Facilitate the organizational transition and software implementation to Sage Intacct.
• Serve as the primary operational liaison between Housing Operations and Fiscal Operations concerning intercompany accounts and reconciliations.
• Evaluate and streamline Housing Department fiscal processes to improve cross-functional workflows.
• Oversee and assist with capital grant monitoring, documentation, and compliance requirements.
• Prepare special financial grant reports, variance analyses, and budget projections for executive leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
• Minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit finance, accounting, or grants management.
• Proven background managing complex funding portfolios encompassing city/state government contracts, private foundation grants, and restricted/unrestricted funds.
• Demonstrated project management track record leading concurrent initiatives, setting milestones, and driving cross-departmental deliverables to completion.
• Hands-on familiarity with nonprofit financial systems; experience supporting an implementation of or working directly in Sage Intacct strongly preferred.
• Strong technical acumen in capital grant monitoring, affordable housing fiscal workflows, and intercompany accounting.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and reconciliation skills with rigorous attention to detail.
• Exceptional communication skills with the ability to articulate fiscal requirements to non-finance staff and collaborate effectively across all levels of an organization.

 Compensation & Benefits

• Base Salary: $150,000 per year.
• Schedule: Full-time hybrid model requiring 3 days per week in-office (Lower Manhattan) and 2 days remote, featuring an early Friday close at 3:00 PM.
