Surgical Technician - PRN

Position Summary Assists in the organization and daily function of the operating room in accordance with established federal, state and accreditation standards and facility policies and procedures. Assists the nurses and physicians in delivering the highest standard of patient care available. Minimum Requirements Operating room experience required; two (2) years of hospital main operating room experience desired. Current BLS required. Certification as a surgical technician required. Eligible for employment; must provide proof of identity and right to work in the United States. Knowledge: Working knowledge and experience in a hospital OR or ambulatory surgery center; anticipate physician needs; maintain equipment, instrumentation, gases; ready for all procedures; willing to take additional assignments. Machines, Equipment & Work Aides: Telephone, fax, standard surgical instruments, equipment, machinery, medical supplies, instrument disinfecting machines and chemicals, medical gas canisters. Essential Competencies & Performance Expectations Technical skills: Trouble‑shoot equipment problems. Verbalize knowledge of risks and complications. Report malfunctioning equipment; demonstrate awareness of repair protocol. Anticipate equipment and supply needs based on surgeon preference. Select equipment and supplies in an organized, cost‑effective, timely manner. Ensure all equipment functions before use; remove malfunctioning equipment. Demonstrate skill in appropriate use of instruments and equipment. Ensure emergency equipment and supplies are available at all times. Keep surgical suites clean, tidy, free of soiled equipment and supplies; properly stocked. Follow established policies for surgical counts; initiate corrective actions when counts are incorrect. Create and maintain a sterile field; apply principles of aseptic practice; correct technique breaches. Wear appropriate attire in restricted area; adhere to traffic patterns. Understand safe care and handling of instrumentation; sterile processing standards. Assist with inventory management; OR turnover and preparation of sterile supplies (e.g., opening, case pulling). Communication Listen respectfully; give direct, honest feedback; clarify differences. Communicate and interact effectively with patients (using translation services when needed), their families, and other internal and external clients from diverse backgrounds. Quality Willingness to consider new ideas and adapt to changing environments. Understand, verbalize, and participate in quality improvement processes.
