Job Summary As an integral part of the team, and contact person for the Care Center, the Business Associate is responsible for the business aspects of a patient's stay, the tlow of information throughout the unit and between members of the patient care team, as well as a patient focused care within the Care Center. These activities include; admitting, maintaining census information, maintenance of the medical record from registration to admission or discharge, coordination of patient movement, scheduling procedures, performing unit reception duties, and other duties as needed. • Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
• Ensures patient privacy by providing appropriate screening in an appropriate environment.
• Refers questions from patients and families to appropriate personnel.
• Respects the rights of patients and families to make informed health care decisions.

Admit patients to the care center. Balanced Performance Measure: Internal Process (IP)

• Register patient for procedures.
• Obtains and validates demographic and insurance data.
• Discuss state mandatory regulations and what is to be expected upon admission.
• Verify and enter demographic information.
• Verify and enter insurance information.
• Signing of forms.
• Collect deposits and precerts.
• Obtain authorization when necessary.

Conducts patient registration utilizing computerized system. Balanced Performance Measure: Internal Process ( * To ensure that all pertinent patient information is received.IP) Conduct intake of new patients. Enter financial information on computer. Review proof of family income for self-pay patients and assign to sliding fee category. Balanced Performance Measure: Internal Process IP

• Accurate and complete financial, demographic and insurance information.
• Patient's understanding of financial responsibility.
• Error free registration.

Registers patient, generating the medical record, MR#, account #. Identify and correct inaccurate registration information, follow up as necessary with HIM. Balanced Performance Measure: Internal Process IP

• Registrations are not duplicated and if necessary, corrections are made.
• Required forms are prepared; i.e., consents for treatment, Medicare assignment letter.

Maintains census and charge information. Balanced Performance Measure: Internal Process IP

• Assign beds to incoming patients.
• Update the Admissions, Discharge, transfer (ADT) System. Compile information and data entry for charge capture.

Schedules appropriate tests, medical procedures, and follow-up appointments. Balanced Performance Measure: Internal Process (IP)

• Maintains required records of admissions, discharges, transfers and deaths.
• Maintains record of patient activities and movement. Prepares various records and charts as required by normal patient unit clerical activities.
• Schedules appointments and arranges transportation for patients leaving the unit for diagnostic testing and therapy; remains informed of patient activity and movement.
• Notifies Admitting, Nutrition, and other departments as required of pending admissions, discharges, transfers and changes in patient status and needs.
• Makes arrangements related to patient discharge, i.e., clinic appointments and referrals, valuables retrieval and transportation.

Performs secretarial duties on the patient care unit. Interact with patients and visitors. Balanced Performance Measure: Internal Process (IP)

• Prepares and maintains all patient charts from admission through discharge of patients. Admission, transfer, discharge)
• Assures all patient charts are completes and properly identified and that all pages in the chart are stamped with patient's address plate.
• Assures all charts are maintained in the proper page order; removes excess a es as necessary and stores in the prescribed manner and location.
• Performs other secretarial duties as directed by the Manager or change designee.
• Unit log, statistics, paperwork, reports associated with unit activity.
• Ensures that all demographic and insurance information obtained is verified and accurately entered into the appropriate hospital systems at the point the information becomes available.
