Location: San Diego, Orange County
Employment Type: Temp On-Call (Project-Based)
We are seeking motivated and safety-minded Field Archaeologists to support a unique construction monitoring project. Candidates should have experience with cultural resources construction monitoring and related compliance support, resource identification, recordation, and documentation in a variety of field conditions and construction settings.
Experience and/or training in identifying and documenting paleontological resources in a construction monitoring setting is highly desirable. Candidates with multidisciplinary field experience are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
- Identify, document, and record prehistoric and historic-period cultural resources.
- Record field observations using GPS units, tablets, and field forms.
- Complete daily field notes and assist with technical documentation.
- Work safely in remote environments and challenging terrain.
- Follow all client, agency, and company safety protocols.
- Collaborate effectively with project managers, field directors, and multidisciplinary environmental teams.
- Provide air quality monitoring support and observations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a closely related field.
- Previous CRM/environmental consulting field experience.
- Familiarity with state and federal regulatory compliance frameworks and multi-agency Project-specific compliance support
- Ability to identify common prehistoric and historic artifacts.
- Experience with GPS/GIS data collection.
- Strong written communication and field documentation skills.
- Ability to monitor construction activities while adhering to required project-specific safe work practices
Highly Desirable Qualifications
- Experience working alongside paleontologists or on projects with paleontological resource monitoring or surveys.
- Experience recognizing fossil-bearing formations or documenting paleontological resources.
- Experience or knowledge of conducting air quality or dust monitoring, including taking Photoionization Detector (PID) readings, is a plus.
- Current 40-HAZWOPER certification (preferred but not required).
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record for work vehicle usage.
- Experience using Collector/Field Maps or Survey123
- Ability to work 10-hour shifts and extended field rotations
