Chemical Operator

Position: Chemical Operator Primary Location: East St. Louis Shift: 12 hours per day - Rotating shift Reports to: Operations Manager Compensation: $31.69 + Benefits available through union (base salary only; excludes bonuses, benefits, pension contributions, other incentives) About the Role This job is diverse in the mechanical ability to perform general plant operator duties. The Chemical Operator is an integral part of our production team and will be responsible for the overall chemical production process including weighing, mixing chemical ingredients, monitoring equipment and the manufacturing process. The ideal candidate will be attentive, knowledgeable, and have a desire to work with other production team members to develop the best processes and products. Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent. 1–3 years of experience working in chemical manufacturing or manufacturing/production. Experience working with forklifts preferred. Ability to lift 50 lbs or more. Competencies Experience using Microsoft programs, maintenance management systems and email. Aptitude for mechanics. Willingness to comply with safety and quality regulations, including wearing protective gear when necessary. Key Responsibilities Perform chemical manufacturing operations safely and effectively. Record information such as ingredients, weights, and temperature and input into database. Monitor and control pressure and temperature of chemical process equipment. Operate plant equipment as per Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Handle, transport and process chemicals safely. Document plant processes and record production data. Operate tank truck and railcar vessel opening, loading and unloading of product; operate pumps, piping and valves. Troubleshoot issues with production equipment and processes. Maintain plant inventory records. Operate mobile equipment: Backhoe, Trackmobile, Forklifts, and other mobile equipment. Perform daily plant upkeep and maintenance; daily housekeeping duties. Working Environment Chemical manufacturing plant producing Liquid Alum, ACH and PAC chemicals. Physical capability to perform tasks in 100-degree ambient temperatures while wearing Protective Personal Protection. Job requires climbing stairs and ladders and lifting within OSHA guidelines. Environment includes outdoor elements where radiant heat or cold is normal; rotating shifts. Follow plant safety guidelines such as Confined Space, Working with Heights, Management of Change, Hot Work and Operating Procedures.
