$50k - $70k

Northwest Hearth & Home

Job Description

Job Description

About the Position

Northwest Hearth & Home is seeking a personable, design-minded professional to help homeowners select beautiful, functional fireplace solutions for their homes. This role combines consultative sales, interior design guidance, estimating, and customer project coordination.

You will serve as a primary point of contact for customers visiting our Olympia showroom, helping them explore fireplace options, understand heating capabilities and product features, and choose designs that complement their homes and budgets. You'll guide customers through product selection, prepare estimates, and coordinate their projects through installation and completion.

We are not looking for a high-pressure salesperson. We value someone who listens carefully, understands customer needs, offers thoughtful recommendations, and builds trust through knowledgeable, attentive service.

Experience in kitchen and bath design, cabinetry, flooring, tile, home improvement, or specialty showroom sales is valuable. However, previous fireplace industry experience is not required. We provide paid product training, experienced team support, and opportunities for professional certification. We are looking for someone who desired to become a hearth industry expert and growing with the business over the long term.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome showroom customers and understand their goals, preferences, budgets, and project requirements.
  • Explain fireplace types, heating capabilities, features, and product differences to help customers make informed decisions.
  • Recommend fireplace products and configurations that balance functionality, aesthetics, and cost.
  • Guide customers through design decisions involving fireplace styles, mantels, surrounds, tile, stone, colors, and finishes.
  • Help customers visualize attractive, practical fireplace solutions that complement their homes.
  • Prepare accurate estimates, sales orders, and invoices, including fireplace options, accessories, and related finish materials.
  • Follow up with prospective customers, answer questions, and guide purchasing decisions without high-pressure sales tactics.
  • Coordinate technical evaluations and installation requirements with the company's project estimator and installation team.
  • Prepare purchase orders, coordinate with suppliers, and track product availability and deliveries.
  • Coordinate site inspections, installation appointments, and customer communications.
  • Maintain ownership of customer projects from initial consultation through installation and completion.
  • Maintain accurate customer records, project details, order information, and follow-up activities.
  • Keep the showroom welcoming, organized, and professionally presented.
  • Support general office administration, scheduling, purchasing, and basic bookkeeping activities as needed.

Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal, listening, and customer communication skills.
  • A natural interest in interior design, home improvement, colors, materials, and visual aesthetics.
  • Ability to understand customer needs and translate ideas into practical product and design recommendations.
  • Comfortable explaining product features, pricing, and options to customers.
  • Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects and follow through on commitments.
  • Comfortable with basic calculations, measurements, estimates, and written documentation.
  • Willingness and ability to learn fireplace products, heating concepts, and relevant technical fundamentals.
  • Comfortable using computers and learning business software for estimates, orders, and scheduling.
  • Reliable, professional, and able to work independently while collaborating with a technical and installation team.
  • Customer-focused, patient, and motivated to build long-term customer relationships.

Preferred but Not Required

  • Kitchen and bath design or showroom sales experience.
  • Cabinetry, countertops, flooring, tile, or building-material sales experience.
  • Interior design, home furnishings, appliance sales, or specialty retail experience.
  • Consultative sales or customer service experience.
  • Experience preparing estimates, coordinating product orders, or managing customer projects.
  • Familiarity with residential remodeling, construction, or home improvement.
  • Fireplace or hearth industry experience, manufacturer training, or NFI certification.

Candidates with strong design instincts, excellent communication skills, and a willingness to learn are encouraged to apply even without formal sales experience.

What We Offer

  • Annual base salary of $50,000–$70,000, based on relevant experience and demonstrated ability.
  • Opportunities for additional performance-based bonuses.
  • Full-time, Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM.
  • Six paid holidays and five paid vacation days per year, increasing to ten days after five years.
  • Paid sick leave in accordance with Washington law.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Paid, structured training on fireplace products, design options, and sales processes.
  • Employer-supported training and approved certification opportunities, including the National Fireplace Institute (NFI) Hearth Design Specialist certification.
  • Ongoing mentoring and technical support from experienced fireplace professionals.
  • An opportunity to develop specialized expertise in fireplace design, sales, and residential home improvement.
