Emergency Communications Officer

Duty to receive and handle emergency service calls from the public, determine the nature and location of the emergency, ensure proper radio frequencies for dispatch of emergency units, maintain awareness of the location and status of up to or exceeding 50 emergency response units throughout the shift; operate computer systems and consoles including telephone, radio, and emergency tracking systems; enter, update, and retrieve information from computer systems; prepare incident reports; answer non-emergency calls; coordinate emergency and non-emergency responses with other city departments and law enforcement agencies; handle after‑hour service calls for departments including Animal Control, Water Utilities, Traffic and Transportation/ Streets and Victim Services; and perform other duties as assigned. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and two years of relevant experience. Computer Aided Dispatch, 911 or similar police-related experience preferred. If requested, must take and pass an assessment on Critical Personnel Selection Software. Must have or be able to obtain, within the specified timeframe, a TCOLE telecommunications proficiency certificate and state licensure. Must not have any criminal conviction as an adult or juvenile above a Class B misdemeanor or any Class B misdemeanor within the past 10 years; other convictions may also be considered. Duties involve access to sensitive Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS), which requires a thorough background check. Candidates will be subject to a polygraph exam and criminal history check.
