LPN Outpatient - Cardiology Clinic - Roanoke

Employment Status: Full time Shift: Day (United States of America) Facility: 203 Roanoke St - Christiansburg Requisition Number: R147563 LPN Outpatient - Cardiology Clinic - Roanoke (Open) Responsibilities Provides practical nursing support in the delivery of quality care for patients in a physician practice or clinic setting as directed by the physician or mid-level practitioner. Complies with all federal, state, local, Carilion Clinic, and departmental policies and standards. Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development to appropriately care for patients served. Provides nursing care for patients of all ages. Completes patient assessment to include height, weight, vital signs, chief complaint, current medications, etc. Prepares patients for provider evaluation, including obtaining specimens, positioning for exams, listing medications, assisting during exams and diagnostic/therapeutic procedures. Coordinates tele-retinal and tele-dermatology clinic setup. Administers medications and injections as directed by the provider. Maintains work area, exam, treatment and X‑ray rooms and lab in a clean, safe manner; restocks supplies and instruments; sterilizes reusable equipment as needed. Documents and maintains patient information in the electronic medical record in a timely manner, including updates of treatment procedures, medication refills, test results, patient concerns, etc. Contributes to Carilion Clinic’s performance improvement activities. Provides patient teaching as indicated and directed by the provider, including lab results, diet instructions, medication instructions, appropriate follow‑up, and reinforcing provider instructions. Assists with referral authorizations for specialists and pre‑authorizations for testing and ancillary services. Assists with lab procedures, including collecting urine specimens, collecting and preparing blood samples for reference lab, labeling all specimens with accurate patient ID. Observes safety precautions and standards; assures proper disposal of specimens and contaminated waste. When applicable, performs lab procedures as directed by the provider: phlebotomy, peripheral sticks, collecting and preparing urine specimens, throat smears; conducts lab testing onsite after appropriate training, including waived and moderate complexity studies. When applicable, performs x‑ray procedures as directed by the provider, taking measures to prevent excessive exposure to patient and self, and completing all documentation and labeling of x‑rays. Completes any other tasks relating to the operation of the practice that may be assigned or requested for which training has been provided. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing required, or new graduate of an approved program eligible to sit for the Virginia licensure exam. One (1) year experience in a physician office preferred. Current licensure as a Practical Nurse in the State of Virginia (LPN) required. Current AHA BLS‑HCP certification required. Licensure as a Radiologic Technician Limited if performing radiology. Customer driven with a positive demeanor, good verbal and written communication skills, and a professional appearance and approach. Ability to problem‑solve and communicate with a wide variety of people in an effective manner. Proficient skills utilizing automated computer systems, including electronic medical records. Keyboarding skills required for automated computer systems, including electronic medical records.
