Occupational Therapist (contracted)

Position open until filled.


Reports to: Director of Student Services

Major Responsibilities:
  1. Complete screenings, assessments and document eligibility for occupational therapy services for students according to the policies and procedures of the school district.
  2. Develop therapy goals and objectives via an IEP for each child receiving occupational therapy services.
  3. Implement occupational therapy treatment utilizing purposeful, goal-directed activities within the framework of established methodology and based on the behavioral and biological sciences.
  4. Maintain accurate data regarding student progress and communicate this information to parents, teachers, and others as appropriate.
  5. Reassess and modify therapy plans when indicated, including exiting from services when warranted.
  6. Implement the use of adaptive equipment and devices for the student and/or classroom as identified in student's IEP/504 plan. Order occupational therapy supplies and equipment as appropriate/needed.
  7. Consult with classroom teachers concerning generalization of skills from therapy sessions to the classroom.
  8. Function as a member of the multi-disciplinary team in the school district for the benefit of each child on the occupational therapy case load.
  9. Maintain a working relationship with parents for follow-through of occupational therapy treatment goals at home.
  10. Provide staff in-services to improve an understanding of therapy principles.
  11. Attend meetings and function as a member of various teams for the purpose of discussing for students referred for evaluation, for sharing OT eligibility recommendations, and developing IEP's, as schedule allows.
  12. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams within an MTSS model, providing early-identifying preventative support and tiered interventions to general education students who need fine motor, handwriting or sensory support.
  13. Attend outside clinic and agency meetings as appropriate.
  14. Maintain appropriate communication with outside persons/agencies involved in the medical management of students receiving occupational therapy.
  15. Attend staff development and professional seminars and meetings to maintain and upgrade professional skills.
  16. Provide the Director of Student Services or designee with appropriate reports and communications concerning program needs, accomplishments, and recommendations.
  17. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.
  • Occupational Therapy license required or ability to obtain same.
  • Washington ESA certificate required or ability to obtain same.
  • Must favorably pass the Washington State Patrol/FBI background check.
  • Preference given for having current high quality references.
  • Must submit a complete application packet.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to classroom applications.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required
to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.


The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Terms of Employment: This is a 0.4 FTE contract position. The successful candidate will provide services as an independent contractor and will not be an employee of the Freeman School District. Therefore, the hourly rate will be determined by the independent contractor in agreement with the Freeman School District.
