Student Assistant Specialist - News Editor

The New School was founded by forward-thinking educators in 1919 to defy the intellectual constraints of a traditional college education. The Dean’s Office at Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts, the Adult Bachelor’s Program, and The New School for Social Research seeks a Student Assistant Specialist to update news and promotional content at our college websites.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Enter brief 2-3 sentence news briefs at our news blog and websites (Lang, the Adult Bachelor’s Program, and NSSR)

• Correspond with faculty to confirm information in drafted news posts (when necessary)

• Audit posted news entries and log posted items

• Check in weekly with a supervisor

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Matriculated New School student

• Applicants must have a Federal Work-Study (FWA) award since this position is paid for with Federal Work-Study funds.

• Organized and able to manage projects on one’s own

• Attentive to details

• Ability to communicate in a professional manner with faculty and staff

• Able to work 5 hours per week

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience with a content management system is a plus but not necessary. The person in this position will be trained on our cms platform.

• Experience with google spreadsheets. We use these to textually log the status of projects.

WORK MODE
Hybrid - Employees hired for this position primarily work remotely with the occasional on-campus presence required with advanced notice. Employees in this role will also be expected to use their best judgment to be on campus when necessary in order to best fulfill the responsibilities of their job descriptions. #LI-DNI

Hourly Rate : $18/hr

Responsibilities:

The Student Assistant Specialist updates news and promotional content at our college websites and provide occasional academic administrative support. The person in this position works independently for the most part although a supervisor will review much of their work before it is posted. They report to the Associate Director of Academic Communication and audit their work to ensure it is posted and accurate.
