About the Role: The Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy specializing in neurological rehabilitation plays a critical role in advancing the academic and clinical mission of the institution. This position involves delivering high-quality education to graduate students, preparing them to become competent physical therapists with a focus on neurological conditions. The role also includes conducting impactful research that contributes to the understanding and treatment of neurological disorders, thereby enhancing patient care practices. Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams and engagement in community outreach are essential to promote evidence-based neurological physical therapy. Ultimately, this position aims to foster the development of future leaders in physical therapy through mentorship, scholarship, and clinical excellence. Minimum Qualifications:
Skills: The successful candidate will utilize their clinical expertise in neurological physical therapy to design and deliver effective educational content that prepares students for real-world practice. Research skills will be applied daily to develop innovative studies, analyze data, and disseminate findings that advance the field. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for mentoring students, collaborating with colleagues, and engaging with community partners. Organizational and leadership skills will support curriculum development, committee participation, and academic service responsibilities. Additionally, adaptability and continuous learning will enable the candidate to integrate emerging evidence and technologies into teaching and clinical practice.
- Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy (DPT) or a related field such as PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences.
- Specialized clinical experience in neurological physical therapy.
- Eligibility for or current licensure as a Physical Therapist in the United States.
- Demonstrated ability or potential for scholarly research and publication.
- Experience or strong commitment to teaching at the graduate level.
- Board certification in Neurologic Physical Therapy (e.g., NCS).
- Postdoctoral research experience or advanced research training in neurological rehabilitation.
- Experience with grant writing and securing external research funding.
- Prior experience in academic service roles or leadership positions.
- Familiarity with interprofessional education and collaborative clinical practice.
- Develop and deliver comprehensive coursework in neurological physical therapy to graduate students.
- Design and supervise clinical education experiences that provide hands-on training in neurological rehabilitation.
- Conduct original research focused on neurological physical therapy, including securing funding and publishing findings in peer-reviewed journals.
- Mentor and advise students and junior faculty members to support their academic and professional growth.
- Participate in departmental, college, and university service activities, including curriculum development and committee work.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers and community organizations to promote neurological physical therapy services and research.
- Stay current with advances in neurological physical therapy and integrate new knowledge into teaching and clinical practice.
