Manager of Procedural Advanced Practice Providers- Cardiology

Summary Reports to the Director of the Cardiovascular Service line at Rhode Island Hospital. Under the direction of the Division Directors of the Cardiovascular Institute and the Administrative Director, this role is responsible for the organization of clinical services, onboarding, training, and evaluation of Advanced Practice Providers. The position creates a dyad relationship with the physician directors of Electrophysiology, Interventional Cardiology, and Structural Heart Programs, and is a key member of the leadership team in conjunction with Program Managers. Additionally, the role is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining other subspecialty programs within the Cardiovascular Service Line, including but not limited to electrophysiology and structural heart. Leadership responsibilities require honesty, integrity, credibility, and vision to engage staff and achieve overall goals. The role also involves clinical responsibilities, providing direct patient care with physician collaboration, and all essential functions are performed with sensitivity to the age‑specific needs of patients. Responsibilities Participate in, develop, and implement strategic objectives for Advanced Practice Providers to practice at the fullest capacity of their license. Spearhead initiatives to improve patient throughput, reduce inefficiencies, and improve quality of care as part of the CVI leadership team. Collaborate on planning, direction, and operation of the administrative and clinical aspects of subspecialty programs; play a key role in program development, growth, and operations. Develop and implement business plans to support the goals and strategies of the organization. Continuously assess outpatient flow model to maximize MD and APP patient schedules, improve patient access to care, and streamline access to electrophysiology procedures and Afib Clinic. Apply business and management expertise to set direction, measure results, resolve problems, and achieve operational and financial objectives. Serve on various organizational committees and projects, contributing to decision‑making concerning the delivery of care and operations of the clinical organization. Develop, implement, and maintain professional development activities, including onboarding, Advanced Practice Provider competencies, mentoring, and preceptor programs. Mentor direct reports to promote professional growth, job satisfaction, and clinical excellence. Participate in the hiring of Advanced Practice Providers, including initial review of applications, candidate selection, and participation in interviews and final selection. Provide direct leadership to the inpatient and outpatient Electrophysiology and Structural Heart Advanced Practice Providers, including staffing, scheduling, coordinating staff meetings, providing clinical updates, reward and recognition, and collaboration with other APP teams. Complete and publish quality initiatives to support the center of excellence reputation and attract high‑quality applicants. Conduct annual performance evaluations for direct reports. Build dynamic relationships with administration, medical directors, physicians, device technicians, nursing and nursing leadership to create an inter‑collaborative advanced practice provider role that establishes an exemplary model of care, increases patient satisfaction, professional development, and research activities. Generate and maintain statistical information relating to the Advanced Practice Providers within the Cardiovascular Institute. Maintain established hospital and department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control. Provide support to ancillary staff, including but not limited to nurses, technicians, and medical assistants. Basic Knowledge Must be a graduate of either a Nurse Practitioner or a Physician Assistant Program. If a Nurse Practitioner, must have a Master’s Degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program and be certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). Must be licensed in the State of Rhode Island as a Nurse Practitioner with prescriptive privileges. If a Physician Assistant, must be a graduate of a Physician Assistant Program with an M.S. degree, have a passing grade on the certifying examination administered by the NCCPA, and be certified by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants. Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certifications are required. Functions with demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the lifespan, with consideration of aging processes, human developmental stages, and cultural patterns in each step of the care process. Experience 2–5 years’ experience in cardiovascular care is preferred; prior supervisory experience is desirable. Work Environment And Physical Requirements Healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals, physicians’ offices, and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Works with medical equipment and has direct patient contact. Potential hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures, precautions, and the use of safety equipment and protective clothing. Independent Action May provide evaluation and management services independently under a national provider number (NPI) consistent with regulations governing non‑physician provider billing and collections, hospital medical staff privileges, and payer credentialing. The incumbent functions independently within the broad scope of department policies and practices, consulting with a superior only when clarification, interpretation, or policy exceptions are needed. Supervisory Responsibilities Provides direct supervision for Cardiovascular Institute Advanced Practice Providers in the inpatient and outpatient setting, approximately 12–15 providers (Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants).
