Role Summary:

The Project Engineer works closely with the Site Superintendent, Assistant Site Superintendent, and Project Manager to keep custom residential construction projects organized and moving forward. This role coordinates drawings, approvals, procurement, project documentation, and outstanding decisions so the field team has the information and materials needed to execute the work.

While the superintendent team leads daily jobsite activities, the Project Engineer anticipates upcoming needs, resolves coordination issues, and follows through on project details. The position combines office work with regular jobsite involvement and offers an opportunity to grow into construction project management.

Job Responsibilities:

• Participate in preconstruction meetings and project handoffs to understand project scope, budget, schedule, and client expectations.
• Work with the Site Superintendent to identify upcoming information, material, and approval needs based on the construction schedule.
• Review drawings and specifications to identify discrepancies, missing details, and potential construction conflicts.
• Prepare and track requests for information, coordinating timely responses from architects, engineers, designers, and consultants.
• Maintain current drawings, specifications, and approved selections, and communicate revisions to the superintendent team and affected subcontractors.
• Coordinate submittals, shop drawings, product samples, and approvals before ordering, fabrication, or installation.
• Maintain procurement logs and track long lead materials, purchasing deadlines, production status, and delivery dates.
• Coordinate purchasing and deliveries with suppliers, procurement staff, and the superintendent team.
• Track client selections with the design team and communicate decision deadlines and potential schedule impacts.
• Assist with quantity takeoffs, subcontractor bid solicitation, bid comparisons, and scope reviews.
• Support the Project Manager with subcontract agreements, purchase orders, and subcontractor buyout documentation.
• Gather pricing and supporting documentation for proposed changes, and maintain change-order and approval logs.
• Document field questions and unforeseen conditions identified by the superintendent team, and coordinate required responses.
• Assist with budget tracking, invoice review, and verification against purchase orders and approved changes.
• Support permit applications, agency responses, and maintenance of permit and inspection records.
• Attend project meetings, prepare meeting notes, and follow up on assigned action items.
• Visit jobsites regularly to review upcoming needs, document progress, and resolve outstanding coordination items with the field team.
• Maintain organized project files and accurate logs for RFIs, submittals, selections, procurement, and changes.
• Communicate potential cost impacts, delays, and unresolved issues promptly to the Project Manager and Site Superintendent.
• Support project closeout by tracking punch-list documentation and collecting warranties, operating manuals, and final project records.

Requirements:

• Two or more years of experience in project engineering, construction coordination, estimating, or a related construction role preferred.
• Experience with custom homes or high-end residential construction strongly preferred.
• Ability to read architectural and structural drawings, specifications, and subcontractor scopes.
• Working knowledge of residential construction methods, materials, and sequencing.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines across multiple projects.
• Proactive approach to identifying issues and anticipating field needs.
• Consistent follow-through and attention to detail.
• Professional communication skills and the ability to work effectively with field teams, subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, and clients.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and familiarity with construction management software.
• Buildertrend, PlanSwift, and digital drawing review experience are advantageous.
• Comfort working in both an office and active construction environments.
• A degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred; equivalent practical construction experience is welcome.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to assigned jobsites.
