Sports Anchor

The Sports Anchor serves as a primary presenter and producer of sports content for WGN across all platforms. This role delivers sports stories, game highlights, and updates in a manner that is clear, engaging, and compelling to listeners. Responsibilities : Presents sports stories, updates, and game summaries for broadcast across all platforms in a clear, concise, and engaging manner. Writes, orders, and balances sports news, stories, and feature content to create compelling broadcasts. Writes content for the website, podcast platforms, and other eMedia outlets, while interacting with listeners and users on social media. Conducts interviews with a wide array of sports guests and newsmakers. Ensures that all sports content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality. Assists in researching, copy editing, and coordinating sports programming; responds to breaking sports news and urgent newsroom situations as required. Performs special projects and other duties as assigned. Requirements & Skills: Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience. Fluency in English. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when required. Minimum five years’ experience in on-air hosting. (More or less depending on market size.) Excellent news judgment with an expansive knowledge of local and national current events, history, newsmakers and issues. Ability to identify the developmental needs of others and to coach, mentor or otherwise help others to improve their knowledge or skills. Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment. Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to effectively listen to fully understand problems and communicate with a team to shape a solution. Flexibility to work any shift including overnights.
