Location Phoenix, Arizona Work Shift Day Job Category Phlebotomy Position Summary This position may be located within a Hospital Facility, Patient Service Center (PSC), In Office Phlebotomy (IOP) or Mobile Diagnostic Services (MDS). This position may be responsible to provide coverage at multiple locations. This position is responsible for the collection and receipt of biological specimens into the department, their proper entry into the company’s computer system, the preparation of samples for analytical testing and/or the distribution of these specimens to the proper analytical area. This includes responsibility for pre and post aspects of analytical testing. This position will also perform specified analytical testing as assigned. Follows the guidelines of the Code of Conduct. Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Core Functions Specimen collection, general laboratory specimen processing or referral laboratory processing. In doing so, ensuring correct patient and specimen identification and specimen integrity by using appropriate techniques for all age criteria as required. In IOP locations, manage client relationship within Compliance regulations to ensure that their needs are met and business objectives are satisfied. Enter and verify patient demographics, location, physician data, tests requested, time and date of collection, appropriate clinical information, and all other pertinent data found on requisitions and computer-generated orders as required for processing and billing. Verify accuracy of entered information. Verify appropriateness of specimens received. Aliquot and label specimens according to established departmental procedures and practices, deliver specimens timely and/or perform initial processing and preparation of samples for transport. May assist in monitoring workflow and training of new employees. Focus on quality by assuring that all work performed is accurate and complete. Complete documents legibly and accurately per site protocol. Follow established methods and practices. Maintain familiarity with departmental procedures. Use appropriate documentation to record communications. Initiate computer generated reports as required for patient reporting and quality assurance monitoring. Meet departmental standards for productivity and quality as currently defined. Actively participate and provide input to department/system via committees or Six Sigma teams. Maintain acceptable specimen rejection rates and meet the departmental standards for productivity and quality. Participate in departmental financial responsibilities through the appropriate use of supplies and materials. Avoid excessive waste. Participate in department initiatives to reduce costs and improve service. Basic knowledge of billing. Commitment to error-free work environment. Communicate courteously and professionally with internal and external customers. Interact with co-workers with an emphasis on teamwork and a focus on customer service. Physical Demands / Environment Factors Able to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach and stretch frequently. Required to lift, push and/or pull up to 25 pounds. Requires manual dexterity, standard precautions, ability to distinguish colors, take direction and assimilate instructions quickly. Requires use of computer, printer, copier, telephone, fax and department specific equipment. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Personal maturity and responsibility. Excellent customer service skills, good performance review, passing on-site competency evaluation and/or assessment as defined by the department. Minimum Qualifications Minimum age requirement of 18. High school diploma or equivalent (state regulatory requirements). Basic knowledge of department resource materials. Completion of a phlebotomy program or phlebotomy experience. Phlebotomy certification as defined by state regulations. Possibility of DHS Fingerprinting Certification or ability to obtain fingerprint certification. Valid state driver’s license in the state of employment and eligible for coverage under the company auto insurance policy. Float positions require travel and flexible hours, ability to work multiple locations, cover mobile phlebotomy facilities/in-office locations with minimal notice. Flexible and available based on staffing requirements, weekends, holidays and overtime. May be required to work occasional on-call duties weekends, evenings, early AM. Progression through career ladder II-IV subject to completion of career ladder requirements. Preferred Qualifications Bilingual (Spanish/English). Knowledge of medical terminology.
