Registered Nurse Quality Management Coordinator

Summary The Registered Nurse - Quality Management Coordinator will be responsible for providing leadership in the aspects of assessment - measurement - and process improvement regarding patient/resident care and organizational functions. The incumbent will develop and coordinate facility-wide accreditation and performance. Qualifications English Language Proficiency – in accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f) – no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by either the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may have the opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program. Upon achievement of a State license, the individual may be appointed on a temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program (Reference VA Handbook 5005 – Appendix G6). Graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing – possession of a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing to warrant an appointment as a Nurse who has completed an associated degree/entry level Nursing education program. Credit for foreign nursing education higher than associate degree/entry level requires a formal degree equivalency validation from a recognized equivalency evaluation accepted by VA such as International Consultants of Delaware (ICD). Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia. Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) Exception: Candidates who otherwise meet the basic education requirements but do not possess the required licensure may be appointed at the entry step of the grade and level applicable to the completed nursing education as a GNT on a 120‑day temporary appointment while actively pursuing licensure (may be extended up to two years on a case‑by‑case basis). NOTE: Grandfathering Provision – all persons currently employed in VHA in 0610 series and performing the duties as described in the qualification standard on the effective date of the standard (1/29/2024) are considered to have met all qualification requirements for the grade held including positive education and licensure/certification. Grade Determinations: The following scope – education and dimension criteria must be met to determine the grade assignment of candidates and, if appropriate, the level within a grade (refer to Range of qualifications for Nurse I, Nurse II, and Nurse III positions, including educational degrees (ADN, BC, BSN, MSN, MD, PhD, etc.) and required experience levels as outlined in the online assessment. Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting (45 lbs and over), heavy carrying (45 lbs and over), straight pulling and pushing, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands required, walking and standing up to 8 hours, repeated bending, ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, hearing aid permitted. Reference: For more information on this qualification standard – please visit Duties The Registered Nurse – Quality Management Coordinator is accountable for multiple facets of the SAVAHCS Quality Management, aligned under the Quality & Patient Safety Service. The RN – Quality Management Coordinator works collaboratively with other Quality Management Coordinators in the Service line. The Coordinator should be capable of developing Performance Improvement Plans and demonstrate knowledge and application of evidence‑based practices. The RN – Quality Management Coordinator will provide support at the unit, service‑line, and organizational levels. Key responsibilities include tracking, analyzing, and trending process activities for inpatient, outpatient, and resident care. The RN – Quality Management Coordinator partners with various service lines to develop, implement, and sustain QM programs that ensure compliance with best clinical and service practices as well as accreditation standards. Tasks include developing and tracking key metrics, educating stakeholders, presenting results, collaborating with stakeholders on monitoring, sustaining, and reporting progress, or revising approaches to maintain high quality care and service. Applicants should be familiar with accreditation standards and possess the ability to assess and prioritize system vulnerabilities. Applicants should also demonstrate strong communication and presentation skills and the ability to support and lead teams to improve performance. The RN – Quality Management Coordinator will have experience with data management systems – basic statistics, collection techniques, methods of analysis, displaying and reporting techniques, and computer knowledge. Preferred education: Master's degree in nursing management or other health‑related fields. Preferred experience: A minimum of five years of working experience in a hospital or managed care setting, with five years of experience in the development, implementation, and maintenance of Quality Management. High personal and professional accountability is required, including knowledge and competence in quality, patient safety, and risk management, and the ability to prepare, implement, and evaluate educational experiences. The RN – Quality Management Coordinator exercises sound judgment and problem‑solving skills and has an understanding of common needs of patients and staff, along with leadership qualities. Effective communication, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively in group settings are essential. Ability to apply new concepts, knowledge, and skills gained from education to the current situation. Possesses knowledge and ability to apply principles of administration, personnel supervision, development, effective group decision‑making, and function with a high degree of independence and initiative. The RN – Quality Management Coordinator possesses core competencies relevant to the assignment and competency checklist, as directed by the immediate supervisor.
