Physician- Correctional Health Infirmary 12-hr Day (25k Retention Bonus)

Job Summary Work in a challenging but rewarding environment with like-minded, mission-oriented team members. The candidate needs to possess strong clinical and communication skills, and be highly accountable. This person provides high-quality care for individuals housed in the Harris County Jail. Performs intake health assessments, manages urgent care issues, identifies and treats chronic care illnesses, and collaborates with advanced practice practitioners. Works in conjunction with Harris County Sheriff Office deputies, nursing staff, and on-site services such as radiology, pharmacy, nutrition, dental, and laboratory services. May require communication with Harris Health Transfer Center or other local hospitals if patients require a higher level of care. Ensures organizational compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements. Degrees Doctor of Medicine – Board Certified or Board-eligible in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Emergency Medicine. Must maintain board certification throughout employment and become board certified before board eligibility runs out. Must meet all credentialing criteria set by the Medical Executive Committee. Licensure Texas Medical Board – Must hold a valid Texas license to practice medicine and be registered as a physician in the State of Texas. DEA License Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) License. Must remain active throughout employment. Work Experience Completion of an ACGME accredited 3-year or 4-year residency program in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Emergency Medicine. Communication Skills Above average verbal communication (heavy public contact). Exceptional verbal public speaking. Writing and Correspondence Writing and correspondence required for clinical documentation and communication with external partners. Employees Supervised No supervisory responsibilities. Reports To Medical Director. Other Requirements Request for leave must be submitted sixty (60) days in advance for approval to enable arrangements of schedule. CME consists of five business days per year.
