As a Radiation Therapist you will administer radiation therapy accurately as prescribed and planned by a physician, and reinforce the Radiation Oncologist's advice to patients regarding reactions to treatment and their care. This position will require you to observe the clinical progress of the radiation oncology patient, use clinical decision-making skills to recognize and report any signs of complications, unusual reactions, and events to the nursing staff and/or Radiation Oncologist. Additional duties could include assisting with the training, mentoring, and/or directly supervision of Radiation Therapy students. The successful candidate for this position will have demonstrated experience working as a Radiation Therapist. This includes the ability to safely and effectively operate a variety of computerized simulation and treatment machines, and the ability to perform all necessary machine and treatment quality assurances and be able and willing to work in all areas within the unit. This position requires professional conduct and the ability to effectively communicate and interact within clinical settings with a variety of individuals in written and oral formats. Function/Duties of Position Sets, adjusts, manipulates and controls complex high energy equipment to apply therapeutic doses of ionizing radiation for treatment of malignancies. Positions patients for therapeutic treatment with a high regard for safety and care of the patients. Maintain electronic treatment record for accurate dose administration and observation of treatment response. Follows hospital protocols, policies, and procedures. Submits appropriate billing codes for delivered treatments and/or simulations. Maintains an organized daily schedule. Performs all necessary QA. Able and willing to work in all areas within the unit. Exercises responsible independent judgment in recognizing and reporting significant side effects induced by radiation. Properly document any side effects or injuries whether from the radiation treatments or other event within the department. Assists in the clinical training of Radiation Therapy students and maintains direct supervision during treatment machine operation. Misc. - other duties as assigned by management Required Qualifications Must be a graduate of an accredited radiation therapy program that meets current qualifications to take and pass the American registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) board examinations in radiation therapy upon hire. Student candidates must obtain the RT(T)(ARRT) certification within 6 months of hire date. Candidates must have a current Oregon Board of Medical Imaging (OBMI) temporary license for student hires and permanent license for registered hires. Those hired prior to 7/1/18 are not required to meet the educational nor experience requirements. Positions with in person patient care: BLS certificate within 30 days of hire or prior to independent practice, whichever comes first. Preferred Qualifications One year (or more) working in the field post-graduation. Experience with the following equipment: Varian, Elekta, Tomotherapy, Mosaiq, ExacTrac, Calypso, Philips CT and VisionRT. Familiarity with IORT, SRS, SBRT, TBI, TSEI, and HDR. Additional Details Is exposed to human tissues/fluids. Wears a film badge and is monitored for radiation exposure. Hazardous substance exposure includes bismuth, lead, tin, and cadmium. May also entail frequent shift changes as determined by patient load or treatment machine needs. This position covers both Marquam Hill campus and Beaverton Community Clinic.
