Communications Shop Supervisor

Total Safety is looking for a Shop Supervisor to join their safety conscious team. The Shop Supervisor ensures accuracy of inventory through monthly and annual inventory cycle counts, coordinates shop, field, and inventory control functions, and performs a variety of duties to ensure proper receipt, handling, storage, and shipment of all commodities. The role also involves troubleshooting Electrical and IT applications daily. Essential Duties Reviews daily work requirements, assigns, monitors, and reviews work of Material Assistants for accuracy and progress. Trains team members to improve skill, productivity, safety, and quality. Assists with and teaches problem resolution. Plans and coordinates special projects. Oversees and performs receiving and inventory control functions, ensuring that all commodities are handled safely and protected against damage or loss. Tracks and expedites shipments; processes short, incorrect, lost, or damaged claims with freight or insurance companies and follows through until resolved. Ensures inventory transactions are entered efficiently and accurately, maintaining the integrity of the inventory records. Coordinates and performs shipping functions: packages and labels products appropriately, meets customer specific requirements, uses efficient and cost‑effective shipping methods, optimizes carriers, and prepares shipping documents (bills of lading, packing lists, dock receipts, air bills, import and export documents) accurately and timely. Assists in resolving issues related to shipping, receiving, and inventory control by investigating and responding to questions and addressing discrepancies. Oversees and performs physical cycle counts; traces item history to determine reasons for discrepancies and recommends actions to resolve them. Works with Sales and Purchasing to implement forecasting and improve utilization of excess or slow‑moving stock. Optimizes warehouse space; ensures items are stored safely, securely, well identified, and that materials can be moved efficiently. Collaborates with Purchasing to improve supplier performance in product protection, packaging, document accuracy, and other areas impacting efficient warehouse operations. Provides leadership in achieving safety goals, promotes ongoing safety awareness, good housekeeping, and compliance with environmental and safety regulations; implements corrective and preventative actions before issues arise. Assists with the human resources functions of the department, including hiring, firing, performance appraisals, counseling, and coaching staff; monitors work hours, ensures accurate timesheets, and balances labor reporting. Troubleshoots Electrical and IT applications daily. Assists with special projects as assigned. Must be able to assist with jobs in the field. Skills and Experience Related, progressive experience with exposure to applying fundamental terms, concepts, practices, and procedures in materials management and inventory transactions. Lead experience or training with understanding of human relations and training preferred. Demonstrated ability to research, analyze, and recommend efficient and effective solutions to problems. Excellent PC skills with thorough knowledge of MS Office programs and proficiency with specialized, function‑related applications such as AS400 based Rental Man; ability to train others to use the system. Ability to develop spreadsheets, modify formats, and recommend improvements for assignments. Ability to maintain data integrity, extract data, perform calculations, and prepare reports accurately and timely. Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive data. Above‑average organization and communication skills required to interact with multiple internal, external, and managerial contacts. Attention to detail and ability to handle diverse tasks simultaneously. Forklift certification as required by facility. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, or crouch; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. Working Environment Shop and yard environment; may have frequent exposure to wet, humid, outdoor weather conditions and vibration; may be exposed to high pressure, chemicals, and shop traffic. Noise level is usually moderate. Must be able to climb stairs and/or towers. Educational Requirements High School education or G.E.D. Additional specialized courses or associate degree in a related field preferred, or internal experience with materials management and inventory control and some product knowledge.
