Grounds Maintenance Supervisor

Grounds Maintenance Supervisor II positions reflect full-time supervisors responsible for supervising a large group of groundskeepers and other workers in the maintenance and beautification of landscaped grounds and adjacent areas. The Grounds Maintenance Supervisor II is the senior level in the series. He/She/They plans, makes work assignments and reviews the activities of subordinates performing tasks such as cleaning, sodding, mowing, planting, trimming, etc. of landscaped areas; supervises fertilizing, weeding and pruning activities; supervises the use of insecticides, fungicides and herbicides; supervises the installation and maintenance of pipelines and sprinkler systems; estimates time and labor costs; keeps records and prepares reports. Qualifications Legal Authorization to Work Requirement: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States. Experience and Training: FIVE (5) YEARS of full time work experience in the care, maintenance and propagation of plants, flowers, shrubs, lawns, and trees, of which two (2) years shall have been as a working supervisor; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Driver's License: Applicants must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment. Federal Criminal History Records Check: In accordance with Federal regulations, persons who are being considered for employment in positions which require unescorted access to secured areas at the airport, must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint-based criminal history record check. In order to be granted the Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) clearance, prospective employees must not have been convicted, or found "not guilty by reason of insanity," of a disqualifying criminal offense within 10 years from the date of the application. Upon recommendation for hire, prospective employees will be required to successfully undergo the fingerprint-based criminal history record check and be found free of disqualifying convictions during the preceding ten years. The cost for the records check will be the applicant's responsibility.
