Senior Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery

Location & Schedule Parkland: 3rd FLR BLK 400 Work Schedule: 7PM - 7AM Night Shift Primary Purpose The RN is a licensed professional who uses the Parkland nursing professional practice model to coordinate patient care delivery that focuses on a particular patient population(s)/specific health condition, by the health care team. Using the nursing process, the RN assesses the patient, identifies nursing diagnoses based on responses to health problems, develops and implements an individualized plan of care, and evaluates the patient’s response. The RN utilizes knowledge of patient needs and the healthcare environment to assist patients to transition through the healthcare encounter without any preventable complications or delays. The RN delegates interventions to health care personnel based on the Texas Nursing Practice Act, each patient’s condition and the competencies of the employee. Education Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Experience At least two years of nursing experience. Prefer experience in an acute care setting. Certification / Registration / Licensure Current RN license or valid temporary permit with the Texas Board of Nursing or a valid Compact RN license. Current BLS for Healthcare Providers certification (American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or Military Training Network). Current Advanced Life Support (ALS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification upon hire or placement. Incumbents and those hired between February 1st – February 29th, 2024 have 90 days from date of hire to attain the certification. Current NRP certification upon hire or placement. Incumbents and those hired between February 1st – February 29th, 2024 have 90 days from date of hire to attain the certification. May be required to have additional specialty certifications. Required upon hire or transition: AWHONN (Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses) certification. Intermediate Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certificate. AWHONN Advanced Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certificate. NCC (National Corporation Certification) Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification. Re-certification: AWHONN certifications every two years; NCC certification renewed every three years. Sr. RN Fellow for L&D must obtain AWHONN Intermediate Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certificate within one year of hire or reclass into the Sr. RN Fellow for L&D role. Skills / Special Abilities Provides care for assigned patient population per Texas Nursing Practice Act, protocols, multidisciplinary plan, and clinical standards. Continuous assessment and consultation with team members as required, demonstrating patient-centered care. Independent judgment in providing nursing care. Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Effective communication via hospital paging system as needed. Direction to non-nursing staff, preceptor role, and charge nurse rotation. Prepares and conducts in-service educational programs. Patient-centered behavior and adherence to nursing standards of care for specialty area. Responsibilities Advocate for patient needs, rights, confidentiality, and cultural preferences; maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Serve as resource for patients, families, and healthcare team; facilitate therapeutic relationships and wellness. Provide patient education and training; participate in community outreach as assigned. Maintain knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, and policies; ensure compliance with state/federal laws and accreditation requirements. Maintain and update knowledge of infection control, safety, supplies, equipment, and appropriate utilization. Perform appropriate patient assessments, continuous surveillance, and intervene as needed; notify providers and implement orders timely. Provide care during labor, vaginal and cesarean deliveries, and immediate postpartum period; support breastfeeding education. Administer medications safely; manage IV access, POC monitoring, and infection control practices; provide emergency resuscitation in Labor and Delivery. Maintain accurate and timely documentation; ensure records meet department and Parkland standards. Provide direction to non-nursing staff; participate in information exchanges; hand off care promptly. Serve as Charge Nurse rotation as needed. Act as preceptor or trainer for newer nursing staff. Prepare and conduct yearly in-service educational program for assigned department. Identify and recommend improvements to workflow and patient satisfaction; implement and monitor results. Serve on interdisciplinary committees as assigned. Stay current with advancements in nursing practice through seminars, workshops, journals, and professional organization participation. Maintain State of Texas RN licensure and additional required certifications; integrate knowledge into work practices. #J-18808-Ljbffr Parkland Health
