Medical Support Assistant

The duties of the position may include but, are not limited to:

• The AMSA provides specialized and expert administrative patient support while working collaboratively in an interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model.
• Work involves specialized administrative judgment and the flexible use of a wide range of clinical flow processes relating to access to care across multiple clinics, specialties, and/or Community Care resources.
• Recommends changes to existing clinic procedures based on current administrative guidelines.
• MSAs at this level develop and/or maintain effective and efficient communication with the patient, interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model teams, VA medical centers, and other agencies e.g., assist with communications during the inpatient to outpatient discharge; communicate with non-VA medical facilities.
• Creates authorization for payment of community care in the Healthshare Referral Manager (HSRM) or alternative software with pertinent information including the community provider's name, address, category of care, referral number, number of visits, purpose of visit, and length of authorization.
• Provides administrative support to ensure all pertinent information is transmitted to appropriate parties for community care that is authorized under any other funding sources.
• Electronically uploads all pertinent clinical and administrative data into HSRM.
• Maintains awareness and proficiency in all web-based application to include, PPMS, CTM and third-party administrator portal.
• Serves as an administrative point of contact in the request, coordination, and authorization for community care consults.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00AM to 4:30PM
