Motion Designer Hybrid (Point Richmond, CA)

We're looking for a mid-level Motion Designer to join our creative team in lovely Point Richmond. At Skycar, the Motion Designer is the person who turns a project's creative vision into polished, well-crafted animation. You'll take direction and execute it with a strong technical foundation, but we also want your visual ideas, from the first concept through final delivery. This is a creative role as much as it is a technical one. You'll work closely with our Creative Leads, Designers, Art Directors and Senior Animators, balancing efficiency with craft. The ideal candidate has a strong visual point of view and understands how it serves the story and the client's business goals. We're a very collaborative shop, so you should be able to make a persuasive case for your ideas and still be genuinely open to other perspectives and feedback (leave the ego at the door). We want a team player who takes ownership of projects and wants to grow into a leader here. Beyond moving pixels and setting keyframes, we want someone who keeps up with where motion design is heading, creatively and technically. You pay attention to great work in the field and keep a catalog (mentally or irl) of what inspires you. This role will help shape how we pitch directly to clients and how we show up in the world, so taste matters and should show prominently in your portfolio. What you'll be doing Collaborating with creative directors, editors, designers and producers Designing and animating across commercial, brand and explainer work: emotionally-driven kinetic type, UI animation, infographics, transitions, VFX Bringing ideas to the table, not waiting to be handed them Helping build style frames, boards and treatments that sell an idea before a single keyframe exists Taking a concept from rough animatic to final render, with clean, organized After Effects projects along the way (your future self and your teammates will thank you) Exploring new tools, techniques and workflows, including emerging AI tools Jumping in wherever needed. We're a small team and everyone wears a few extra hats. Who you are 3-6 years of 2D and/or 3D animation experience Strong visual and artistic sensibility, with growing confidence in your creative chops Highly skilled in Adobe After Effects Can design in all the apps: Figma, Illustrator and Photoshop Able to work through technical problems on your own, with senior staff around when you need them Cinema 4D experience is a plus Familiarity with Cavalry or Rive is also a plus In-person at our Point Richmond office at least 2 days a week Nice to have Experience with Cinema 4D Familiarity with Cavalry and/or Rive Dog-friendly - dogs often hang around here!
