About the Role:

A well-established family law firm in Chicago, Illinois, is seeking a motivated Family Law Associate Attorney to join its growing legal team. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with experience or a strong interest in family law to handle a diverse caseload involving divorce, child custody, support, property division, and related matters. The successful candidate will work alongside experienced attorneys on complex and high-stakes cases while developing litigation skills, building client relationships, and delivering thoughtful, client-focused legal representation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage a caseload of family law matters, including divorce, child custody, child and spousal support, and property division.
• Draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, settlement agreements, and other legal documents.
• Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda and persuasive written arguments.
• Represent clients in court hearings, motion practice, trials, settlement conferences, and mediations.
• Collaborate with partners and other attorneys on case strategy, litigation preparation, and negotiated resolutions.
• Review and analyze financial records and documentation relevant to property division, support, and other family law matters.
• Address custody-related issues and develop strategies that support clients' legal objectives.
• Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and other relevant parties.
• Assist with appeals, post-decree proceedings, and modifications of existing court orders.
• Maintain client confidentiality and ensure accurate case documentation and timely completion of assignments.
• Build strong client relationships through empathetic communication, professionalism, and practical legal guidance.

Required Qualifications:

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Active Illinois Bar admission in good standing.
• Experience in family law or a demonstrated interest in developing a family law practice.
• Familiarity with divorce, child custody, child and spousal support, property division, and related legal matters.
• Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and advocacy skills.
• Ability to draft clear, persuasive pleadings, motions, discovery documents, and settlement agreements.
• Comfort with courtroom appearances, hearings, motion practice, and trial preparation.
• Excellent client communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to empathy, discretion, and confidentiality.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple cases and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with partners, attorneys, and support staff.
• Experience handling financial issues in family law, including support calculations and property division, is preferred.
