Position Summary:


The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) is a paraprofessional who works under the close and ongoing supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or Supervising BCBA. The RBT is primarily responsible for the direct implementation of behavior-analytic treatment plans developed by the BCBA. This role involves working directly with individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other developmental disabilities, implementing skill acquisition and behavior reduction programs, collecting data, and maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment. The RBT plays a crucial role in helping individuals achieve their goals and improve their quality of life.

Responsibilities:


Direct Client Care:

• Implement individualized behavior plans and skill acquisition programs as directed by the BCBA.
• Provide one-on-one or small group instruction in various settings (e.g., clinic, home, school, community).
• Utilize teaching strategies based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), such as discrete trial training (DTT), natural environment teaching (NET), and other evidence-based techniques.
• Implement behavior reduction protocols to address challenging behaviors, following the BCBA's instructions and safety plans.
• Assist clients with daily living skills, communication, social skills, and other individualized goals.
• Maintain a positive, engaging, and motivating learning environment for clients.

Data Collection and Documentation:

• Standards set forth by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) for RBTs.
• Maintain current RBT certification by completing required supervision hours and renewing certification as mandated by the BACB.
• Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge in ABA.
• Comply with all company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
• Maintain client confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations and company policy.

Safety and Crisis Management:

• Implement safety protocols and procedures as outlined in client behavior plans and company policy.
• Recognize and respond appropriately to potential crisis situations, following established crisis management protocols.
• Report any safety concern accurately and consistently collect data on client progress and behavior using various methods (e.g., frequency counts, duration recording, ABC data).
• Document session notes clearly, concisely, and objectively, adhering to company policies and confidentiality guidelines.
• Assist the BCBA with the preparation of instructional materials and data summaries as needed.

Communication and Collaboration:

• Communicate effectively and professionally with clients, families, caregivers, and other team members under the guidance of the BCBA.
• Report any concerns, observations, or changes in client behavior or progress to the supervising BCBA in a timely manner.
• Participate in team meetings and training sessions as required.
• Maintain professional boundaries and ethical conduct in all interactions.

Professional Development and Compliance:

• Adhere to the ethical guidelines and professionals or incidents to the supervising BCBA immediately.

Other Duties:

• Assist with administrative tasks as needed.
• Maintain organization and cleanliness of therapy materials and work areas.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising BCBA or management.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in psychology, education, or a related field preferred.
• Current and active Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification through the BACB.
• Experience working with individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or other developmental disabilities preferred.
• Knowledge of basic principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to follow directions and implement treatment plans consistently and accurately.
• Strong data collection and documentation skills.
• Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with individuals with disabilities.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
• Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license (may be required depending on service delivery model).
• Successful completion of background checks and other required clearances.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to move and interact with clients, including but not limited to sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, and lifting up to 30 pounds.
• Ability to implement physical management techniques as trained and directed by the BCBA.
• Ability to observe and respond to client behavior.
