Summer Camp Substitute Counselor - Santa Monica Camp Dates: 6/15/2026 (Mon) - 8/14/2026 (Fri) (includes one weekend to set up, one weekend to breakdown, and an orientation date) Camp Hours: 8:00 am - 6:00 pm (actual shifts will vary) Hourly Wage: $19.25 - $21.75 per hour. Staff sharpen leadership skills, learn new ones, and collaborate while immersing in creativity and play. Job Responsibilities Staff members will facilitate activities, make connections, and monitor safety and wellness. Some will create and/or oversee activity spaces that campers self‑select, while others will support rotating roles. Responsibilities include: Facilitating a variety of activities such as sewing, stop‑motion animation, maker space, performing arts, arts and crafts, lounging, and recreation. Actively supervising campers. Maintaining an organized and approachable activity space. Ensuring compliance with Camp Policies. Reporting and recording details of notable concerns or incidents, including injuries. Keeping track of camper allergies and dietary restrictions. Adding daily updates and photos to campers’ profiles. Candidate Fit Excited by guiding independent decision‑making for kids. Calm under pressure and capable of calming others. Able to lead groups while collaborating with a team. Potential to keep up with energetic 4‑12 year olds; able to lift up to 40 pounds. Passionate about sharing knowledge and learning new skills. Job Requirements At least 16 years of age. Minimum 2 months of experience working with camp‑age children; 1 year preferred. First Aid & CPR certified prior to Day 1 of Camp. Physical Requirements All applicable health and safety training, immunizations, and physical screening are required. The role involves: Maintaining and following all safety and health rules of the location. Organizing and maintaining clean activity spaces. Assisting in camp set‑up and breakdown during move‑in and out weekends. Standing for long periods while supervising children and facilitating activities. Participating in athletic games.
