Speech and Language Pathologist - As Needed - Temporary

Location: Special Programs Department, 520 NW Wall St, Bend, OR 97703, United States Position: Speech Language Pathologist – As Needed (Temporary) Base Pay: $38.72 - $68.50 per hour Job Definition Under general supervision, the Speech/Language Specialist works to reduce or eliminate speech and language problems that interfere with the student’s ability to derive full benefit from the district’s educational programs. Nature and Scope of Work The Specialist identifies and diagnoses students with speech and/or language impairments, including disorders of articulation, voice, fluency, and expressive or receptive language delays/disorders. The program aims to give students the opportunity to develop effective communication skills in all academic and social areas. The Specialist works under the supervision of the principal or administrator in charge of Special Programs. Essential Job Functions Identify students eligible for speech/language services. Screen new students and those referred by parents, teachers, counselors, physicians, nurses or other agencies. Provide in‑depth diagnosis as needed. Schedule speech and language sessions. Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs for each student. Plan and prepare instructional materials and activities. Record data and assess progress of each student. Confer with parents and teachers regarding student progress. Conduct referrals and follow‑up. Confer with district personnel as needed, including screening committees and staff meetings. Fulfill appropriate responsibilities assigned to the classroom teacher. Perform other duties as assigned. Working Conditions The employee works with groups and one‑to‑one with students who may be physically and mentally handicapped, learning disabled, emotionally disturbed, or culturally different. Responsibilities require standing for up to 45 consecutive minutes and moving quickly to intervene when safety is threatened. The role may involve work during inclement weather and requires lifting materials up to 30 pounds. Requirements Current Oregon speech‑language pathology license. Resume.
