Health Unit Coordinator

Role Overview The Health Unit Coordinator serves as a resource for unit nursing staff, patients, and visitors by assisting with care coordination, providing information, and securing assistance. The Coordinator is expected to provide exceptional customer service, reflecting the organization’s mission, vision, and values. Responsibilities Perform coordinating functions accurately and efficiently. Greet patients and visitors and provide direction and information. Maintain unit information sources such as care assignments. Prioritize and implement unit and patient needs in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, and standards. Communicate courteously, responsively, and timely with all stakeholders. Process physician orders within scope of practice accurately and timely. Efficiently process patient admission, transfer, and discharge and document in EHR. Provide clerical support to the unit and hospital. Demonstrate a customer‑service approach in care and interactions. Participate in quality improvement activities to evaluate and enhance systems and processes supporting patient care. Maintain patient confidentiality at all times. Qualifications High school diploma required. Health Unit Coordinator/Medical Secretary certificate or a two‑year degree preferred. At least one year of work experience in a Health Unit Coordinator or Medical Secretary position preferred. Strong communication and telephone skills. Ability to prioritize and organize tasks in a fast‑paced environment. Computer and clerical skills. Ability to establish effective relationships with health‑care team members. Strong customer‑service skills. Compensation Hourly rate ranges from X–X per hour, based on education and experience.
