Job Description
The Machine Skilled Technician plays a key role in the manufacturing process by setting up, operating, and maintaining high-speed production equipment. This position ensures machines run safely and efficiently, performs mechanical troubleshooting and repairs, and supports both preventive and reactive maintenance activities to maintain consistent product quality and output.
Responsibilities
- Operate a variety of manufacturing equipment, including high-speed presses, assembly machines, metal stamping equipment, injection molding machines, and packaging equipment.
- Ensure reliable operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance on motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, pumps, and production machines.
- Observe mechanical devices in operation, listen for irregularities, and use precision measuring and testing instruments to locate sources of mechanical and equipment problems.
- Determine changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used components with rulers, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
- Set up and adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments using appropriate hand and power tools to support changeovers and machine setup activities.
- Perform machine setup and changeovers, including configuring servo motors, drives, and control systems to meet production requirements.
- Troubleshoot issues with production equipment and perform corrective maintenance and repairs as needed to minimize downtime.
- Carry out reactive maintenance tasks, including replacing like parts, lubricating equipment, and performing general machine upkeep.
- Support fast conveyor systems handling small parts, including monitoring operation and addressing mechanical or performance issues.
- Work across multiple operations, including coating areas with several process zones, to ensure equipment reliability and production continuity.
- Use SAP and HMI interfaces as required to support production, maintenance, and equipment monitoring activities.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment by following safety procedures, using required PPE, and adhering to housekeeping standards.
- Handle product and components for a significant portion of the shift to perform quality inspections and ensure products meet specifications.
- Take responsibility for safety, quality, and production targets, supporting high-speed manufacturing operations.
- Collaborate with team members, share information, and support training efforts by actively participating and taking initiative in daily tasks.
Essential Skills
- At least 2 years of mechanical experience working with fast-paced production machinery.
- Demonstrated mechanical troubleshooting skills for production equipment, including conveyors, pumps, and high-speed systems.
- Experience with preventive and corrective maintenance, including lubrication, part replacement, and general machine upkeep.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints to support machine setup, maintenance, and repair activities.
- Proficiency using hand tools and basic power tools to repair and run production machinery.
- Experience with machine setup, changeovers, and machine set up for high-speed manufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with servo motors, drives, pneumatics, hydraulics, gears, and pneumatic cylinders.
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments such as rulers, calipers, micrometers, and other gauges.
- Basic math skills and the ability to read and write to complete documentation and follow work instructions.
- Capability to handle product and components for up to 90% of the shift to perform quality inspections.
- Ability to walk, stand, stoop, or bend for up to 100% of the shift in a production environment.
- Comfort working with multiple operations and areas, including coating processes with several zones.
- Ability to work in a high-speed manufacturing environment and manage multiple tasks related to production, repair, and maintenance.
- Willingness to take initiative, learn new tasks, and engage in hands-on work with machinery and equipment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with Legacy Metals and Bruderer press equipment or similar high-speed metal stamping machinery.
- Experience working with pumps and fast conveyor systems that handle small parts.
- Exposure to SAP for production or maintenance-related activities.
- Experience using HMI (Human-Machine Interface) systems for machine operation and monitoring.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs, including scheduling and documentation.
- Experience performing reactive maintenance in response to equipment issues and production demands.
- Ability to work effectively across three or more operations, including coating areas with multiple process segments.
- Strong teamwork orientation and willingness to support colleagues and share knowledge.
- Comfort working in environments where some areas may be climate controlled.
- Readiness to progress through technician levels based on skill development and performance.

Work Environment
The role is based in a clean manufacturing environment that supports high-speed production operations. Some areas are climate controlled, providing added comfort while working around equipment such as high-speed presses, conveyor systems, pumps, and coating lines. Technicians work across different shifts, with typical schedules including 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for first shift, 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. for second shift, and 11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. for third shift, and shift premiums are available for second and third shifts. You use tools and technologies such as servo motors, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, precision measuring instruments, SAP, and HMI interfaces in day-to-day work. The environment emphasizes safety, requiring PPE such as steel-toe footwear, ear protection, eye protection, long pants, and appropriate safety gear. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Cleveland, TN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.50/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
