PSYCHIATRIC TECHNICIAN

Position Overview The Department of Developmental Services is hiring a Psychiatric Technician (PT) to staff Stabilization Training Assistance Re-Integration (STAR) homes located in Vacaville, Springville, and Costa Mesa. The PT provides psychiatric nursing care, behavioral training, and direct support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are experiencing acute crises. Responsibilities Deliver general behavioral training and psychiatric nursing care to STAR consumers. Provide on‑site direct care, training, and participate in recreational activities. Cross‑train community home staff or family members to ensure continuity of care. Maintain required credentials, including a valid Psychiatric Technician license, and attend required trainings. Support consumers in achieving self‑determined lives through person‑centered approaches. Qualifications Valid California Psychiatric Technician license issued by the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technician Examiners. Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certificate within 12 months of employment; provide high school verification for RBT. Valid California driver’s license; provide license number and expiration date. Pass drug screening, background investigation, and medical clearance prior to employment. Completion of Director Support Professional training I & II, or challenge test within one year of hire. Minimum of six months direct care experience with individuals with developmental disabilities and challenging behaviors (preferred).
