In this critical department leadership role, you will be the driving force behind the daily finishing, cutting, bindery, and routing operations. You will oversee workflow, manage job queues, mentor and cross-train operators, and roll up your sleeves to set up, operate, and calibrate industrial finishing assets—including high-speed automated paper cutters, CNC flatbed routers, wide-format laminators, and specialized bindery lines. Description for Finishing/Bindery Department Lead:

• Direct, schedule, and lead daily departmental operations across finishing, bindery, flatbed cutting, and lamination production cells.
• Independently program, set up, calibrate, operate, and troubleshoot industrial finishing equipment, including programmable Guillotine paper cutters, CNC flatbed routers/cutters (Zünd/Kongsberg style), wide-format roll/sheet laminators, folders, and stitchers.
• Coordinate work orders, review daily production queues, assign tasks to crew members, and adjust workflow bottlenecks to ensure 100% on-time order fulfillment.
• Train, onboard, and coach floor technicians on proper machine setup, preventative maintenance protocols, speed optimization, and safe operating practices.
• Perform rigorous first-article, in-process, and post-finishing quality inspections using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, precision steel rulers, and gauges) to guarantee tight cut margins and flawless finishes.
• Read, interpret, and audit complex job tickets, digital cut files, technical drawings, and custom customer specifications.
• Lead routine equipment cleaning, blade changes, bit replacements, lubrication, and basic preventative mechanical maintenance.
• Champion plant safety standards, enforce proper PPE usage, and maintain clean, organized 5S workstations throughout the department.

Details for Finishing/Bindery Department Lead:

• Pay Rate: $28.00 – $32.00 / hour (Scaling based on machinery proficiency, print industry tenure, and leadership background / DOE).
• Schedule: Full-Time Monday – Friday (Guaranteed weekday schedule; weekends are rare and Sundays are avoided!).
• Shift Hours: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM (Early morning start — finish early every afternoon!).
• Overtime: Regular daily overtime, typically 15–30 minutes and often up to 1 hour daily based on production flow.
• Role Scope: Dynamic blend of floor team leadership, workflow management, and hands-on equipment setup/operation.
• Location: Fife, WA manufacturing facility (convenient commute from Pierce and South King Counties).

Requirements for Finishing/Bindery Department Lead:

• Machinery Expertise: Minimum of 5 years of verified experience operating industrial finishing, bindery, automated paper cutters, CNC routers, or comparable computer-controlled manufacturing machinery.
• Supervisory Experience: Demonstrated background leading, training, mentoring, or coordinating team members in an active manufacturing, print, or fabrication facility.
• Technical Setup & Troubleshooting: Proven ability to independently set up tooling, zero blades/bits, adjust speeds/feeds, and diagnose mechanical or digital equipment errors.
• Blueprint & Work Order Literacy: Ability to accurately interpret detailed job tickets, architectural/print drawings, and customer cut files.
• Measurement Precision: Hands-on proficiency using precision measurement tools including calipers, micrometers, and depth gauges.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent; ability to pass a standard pre-employment background check.
• Exceptional morning punctuality, consistent attendance, and flexibility to work daily overtime as business demands require.
