Senior Structural Project Engineer, Water Resources

Senior Structural Project Engineer McMillen, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Senior Structural Project Engineer with 8‑12 years of experience focused on water resource‑related work. The role involves working on projects such as fisheries, fish passage, hydropower, dams, flood control, pump stations, and other civil infrastructure. Responsibilities Evaluate, select, and apply advanced structural design techniques, procedures, and criteria. Develop FEA models and perform linear and non‑linear analysis using available software, and present results to clients in an accessible manner. Manage projects by establishing deliverables, building the project team, controlling project scope, establishing communication plans, and monitoring progress. Evaluate and manage planning, design, and construction support services for projects. Collect and analyze field data, as‑built plans, and engineering reports to establish existing conditions and identify critical areas for design criteria. Provide mentorship to other engineering staff. Travel (up to 15% of time) to project sites and client locations. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering from an accredited university. Master’s degree in Structural Engineering. 10+ years of experience as a Structural Engineer with project management experience preferred. PE & SE required; California PE and NCEES registration strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience with water resource infrastructure, including fishery‑related projects, hydropower, dams, water conveyance, storm water networks, heavy grading, water treatment, spillways, and pump stations. Experience with advanced FEA modeling for linear and non‑linear structural analysis using ABAQUS or ANSYS/LS DYNA. Demonstrated expertise in seismic load analysis, including coefficient methods, response spectrum analysis, and time history analysis. Proficient in structural design standards such as ASCE7, ACI 318 and 350, and AISC 360 and 341. Familiarity with federal agency codes and requirements, including FERC, USACE, and USBR. Strong communication, technical, and analytical skills. Regular, predictable attendance required. Ability to work effectively with others. Frequent sitting and standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle, or feel, reaching, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling are required. Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds. Ability to travel with luggage and transport materials and personal overnight supplies. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
