Registered Veterinary Technician - PER DIEM (Jurupa Valley and San Jacinto)

Position Overview The County of Riverside's Human Resources Temporary Assignment Program (TAP) is seeking a registered veterinary technician who will provide routine animal checkups, support during emergencies, and assist with surgeries across Jurupa Valley and San Jacinto locations. Key Responsibilities Perform routine animal physical examinations and record findings. Communicate with pet owners regarding health changes. Record vital signs, including weight, heartbeat, and other vitals. Draw blood samples and administer medications. Prepare instruments and supplies for the veterinary surgeon. Assist with anesthesia and monitor animals during surgical sterilization. Observe and detect post-surgical complications, raising concerns as needed. Assist with admission and discharge of animals to/from clinic. Assist in training clinic personnel and ordering supplies. Assist with prescription preparation and daily operations of the spay/neuter facility. Observe general shelter population for illness or injury. Assist veterinarians in treating a variety of animals, including exotic species. Required Qualifications Completion of education required to obtain California Veterinary Technician certification. Possession of a valid California Veterinary Medical Board certificate as a Registered Veterinary Technician. One year of paid or voluntary experience in a kennel, veterinary, or animal shelter facility. Valid California driver’s license. Rabies pre‑exposure prophylaxis within 30 days of employment. Additional Qualifications Knowledge of safe, humane practices for caring for small animals, equipment, and procedures in a veterinary clinic. Ability to recognize abnormal behavior and physical symptoms, maintain clinic medical instruments, handle the public tactfully, and maintain simple records.
