The School Bus Driver

The School Bus Driver safely operates a school bus under all types of weather conditions. Also, the bus driver transports students and other authorized personnel to and from designated locations on regular and special education routes as well as extracurricular trips as authorized by the school system.

Job Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred

License: Currently possess or is able to obtain a valid Georgia Commercial Driver's License

Physical Activity

• Sitting for prolonged periods of time
• Lifting, bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching
• Demonstrate upper body mobility
• Ability to lift 40 pounds
• Pass a drug screening
• Able to withstand varying weather conditions including heat, cold, wet and/or humid conditions

Knowledge

• Communicates effectively and promotes good public relations with students and administrators
• Works with peers/supervisors in a considerate and cooperative manner and assists others when needed
• Demonstrates patience and care for students
• Ability to understand and follow directions

Duties and Responsibilities

• Attends work every day on time
• Exhibits a professional attitude and demeanor at all times in dealing with the School Board, school administrators, fellow employees, parents, students, and the public
• Transports students on assigned routes
• Familiarizes self with wheelchairs, mobility chairs, and other types of seating equipment.
• Maintains student discipline on the bus and refers serious infractions to the appropriate administrator
• Discharges students only at authorized stops
• Transports only authorized students
• Enforces the Glynn County Schools Behavior code
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Security Clearance: The Glynn County School System requires a criminal background check, drug screening and fingerprinting on all new employees, including all substitutes and other designated employees.

WORK DAYS: 180

COMPENSATION RANGE: $18,234-$24,854*

• Salary is commensurate with experience.
