About the Role
Oceanview UMC is seeking a spiritually grounded, musically gifted Director of Music to lead and grow our worship music ministry. This part-time role directs weekly worship music, conducts the choir, develops ensembles, and partners with the Senior Pastor to create cohesive, Spirit-led worship rooted in the Wesleyan tradition.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and lead all musical elements of Sunday worship and seasonal services
- Select hymns, anthems, and praise music aligned with sermon themes and the UMC calendar
- Direct the adult choir and develop children/youth ensembles as feasible
- Lead weekly rehearsals with musical excellence and spiritual care
- Recruit, encourage, and support volunteer singers and instrumentalists
- Provide or arrange piano/organ/instrumental leadership
- Collaborate with pastor, staff, and A/V volunteers for seamless worship
- Manage music library, licensing (CCLI/One License), and ministry scheduling
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Music or Church Music (Master’s preferred)
- Strong choral conducting and vocal leadership skills
- Ability to play piano and/or organ at a worship-leadership level
- 3–5 years of church or faith-based music leadership
- Experience with notation software (Finale, Sibelius, MuseScore)
- Active Christian faith and alignment with United Methodist theology
- Strong relational and volunteer leadership skills
Preferred Experience
- Familiarity with UMC worship traditions and the Book of Worship
- Experience with blended or contemporary worship styles
- Knowledge of CCLI/One License compliance
- Experience directing children’s or youth choirs
Schedule & Compensation
- Schedule: Part-time (~20 hours/week; includes weekly worship + one rehearsal + staff planning; additional hours during Advent/Christmas, Holy Week/Easter)
- Compensation: Based on experience
