Transportation Maint Tech I, II, or III - Kountze Maintenance (2601680) Work Location: 1942 US 69 North, Kountze, TX 77625. Minimum Salary: 40,918.00; Maximum Salary: 71,055.00. Pay Basis: Yearly. Assists local law enforcement at accident sites; assists stranded motorists. Assists with traffic control, placing and gathering cones, warning signs, barricades, and flags traffic. Determines placement of traffic control devices and installs/moves devices. Inspects barricades to ensure compliance with standards. Maintains highways, right-of-way, and rest areas; performs roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, markers and signs. Moves litter, debris, and performs landscape maintenance. Operates light equipment including front-end loader, plastic roller, rotary broom, spreader box, backhoe, street sweeper, mower. Performs preventive maintenance inspections; routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment; completes required reports. Sands or cleans bridges and roads; posts warning signs; assists during emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents, hazardous material spills. Inspects maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. Transportation Maintenance Tech II Serves as the only maintenance contract inspector on a small project. Inspects traffic control devices and their placement at construction sites for compliance. Maintains construction project records and processes related paperwork. Operates heavy equipment such as front-end loader, tractor-trailer haul truck, large dragline, shovel, paint striper, dump truck. Identifies, repairs, and installs signs; performs welding; handles equipment and materials. Inspects routine maintenance contract construction; ensures compliance with plans and specifications. Identifies, analyzes, and implements solutions for complex maintenance problems. Inspects materials, equipment, and production procedures to ensure specifications are met. Works on a survey crew operating survey instruments such as theodolite, transit, level, electronic distance meter, and total station. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. Transportation Maintenance Tech III Performs highly skilled roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, markers and signs. Inspects routine and non-routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship. Operates complex heavy equipment including motor grader, large excavator, heavy bulldozer, crane, herbicide truck, heavy asphalt paving machine, self-propelled asphalt distributor, profiling/milling machine. May serve as a work crew project lead. Trains other employees. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Education: No specific degree required; related technical training or education may substitute experience. Experience: Tech I – No experience required; Tech II – 1 year; Tech III – 2 years in transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation. Valid driver's license; Commercial Class A with N endorsement or equivalent CDL required within 180 days of employment. Preferred Qualifications Commercial Driver’s License. Additional technical certifications in highway maintenance or heavy equipment operation. Required Competencies Transportation Maintenance Tech I Knowledge of intermodal transportation engineering construction and maintenance work, inspection methods, materials, and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. Skill in using computers, hand and power tools, light and heavy highway equipment. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Transportation Maintenance Tech II Knowledge of inspection methods, vehicle mechanics, safety standards, and equipment coordination. Skill in prioritizing, organizing work assignments, and using computer programs. Transportation Maintenance Tech III Extensive Knowledge of construction methods, specifications, and Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. Proficient in public relations and maintaining effective working relationships. Skill in operating light and heavy highway equipment. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Wear protective gear: respirator, hard hat, steel-toed boots. Subject to extreme cold and heat; noise; vibration; moving vehicles; chemicals; fumes; dust; mists; poor ventilation. Lift up to 50 lb; carry up to 25 lb; perform walking, standing, crouching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Use hearing and visual acuity to operate vehicles and assess infrastructure. Pre-employment physical examination required. Must pass drug test; random testing for safety impact positions. Must be able to report on a 24-hour basis for emergency response.
