Job Summary
Looking for an Embedded Software Engineer 2 to support Caterpillar's autonomous mining haulage systems. The engineer will work with the system integration team on robotics, autonomy, electronic systems, requirements, troubleshooting, and system-level design . Key Responsibilities
- Support onboard system design for autonomous haulage machines.
- Analyze requirements and develop technical solutions.
- Evaluate design tradeoffs, risks, and benefits.
- Troubleshoot and resolve system-level issues.
- Coordinate with software, hardware, validation, and engineering teams.
- Create technical/design documentation.
- Support hardware integration and validation activities.
- Work with global teams and occasional customer/proving-ground sites.
- 2 4 years of engineering experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent
- Robotics/autonomous systems experience
- Experience with robotic hardware and electronic systems
- Requirements decomposition and solution development
- Troubleshooting and issue investigation
- Technical documentation
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Experience with engineering/development processes
- C++ / Python
- Linux
- CAN / Ethernet
- Simulation and validation tools
- Functional Safety / SOTIF
- Data analysis
- Mining, construction, agricultural, or heavy equipment experience
- Caterpillar product experience
Not a pure software-development role. Candidates focused only on coding/software development without robotics, autonomy, hardware/electronics, system integration, and troubleshooting are not ideal.
