Job Description Job Description Carpentry & General Contracting Estimator Location: Chicago, IL Company: Ibuilders Corporation Position Overview Ibuilders Corporation is seeking a detail-oriented and driven Estimator with experience in commercial carpentry and general contracting . This role is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive bids and supporting preconstruction efforts from initial review through project handoff. The ideal candidate understands construction means and methods, has strong analytical skills, and can manage multiple bids in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities Estimating & Preconstruction * Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs for carpentry, drywall, and related scopes * Analyze drawings, specifications, and bid documents for scope completeness * Develop accurate cost estimates including labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor pricing * Solicit and level subcontractor and supplier bids * Identify value engineering opportunities and cost-saving alternatives * Attend pre-bid meetings and site walks as required Bid Management * Manage multiple bids simultaneously with strict deadlines * Prepare and submit complete, organized bid packages * Maintain bid logs and track pipeline activity * Review contract documents and identify scope gaps or risks Collaboration * Coordinate with Project Managers for scope alignment and project handoff * Work with field leadership to validate production rates and labor assumptions * Communicate with clients, general contractors, and vendors during the bidding process Qualifications * 3-7+ years of estimating experience in commercial carpentry and/or general contracting * Strong knowledge of framing, drywall, taping, and finish carpentry scopes * Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications * Experience with takeoff and estimating software (e.g., OST, Bluebeam, PlanSwift) * Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general construction technology * Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills Preferred Qualifications * Experience working for a subcontractor and/or general contractor * Familiarity with Procore, Sage, or similar platforms * Understanding of union labor environments and productivity rates * Degree in Construction Management or related field (preferred, not required) Key Performance Metrics * Annual awarded work target (e.g., $6M-$7M per estimator) * Bid hit rate (target ~10-20%) * Accuracy of estimates vs. project performance * Timeliness and completeness of bid submissions Why Work at Ibuilders * Growing, family-owned company with strong leadership and culture * Opportunity to work on high-profile commercial projects across Chicago * Collaborative team environment focused on doing work safer, better, and more efficiently * Competitive compensation, benefits, and performance-based incentives * Clear path for growth and advancement Compensation & Benefits * Competitive salary (based on experience) * Performance bonus opportunities * Health, dental, and life insurance * 401(k) with company match * Paid time off Company Description At Ibuilders Corporation, you're not just another employee — you're part of a team that builds with purpose.
