Job Overview The Families and Workers Fund (FWF) is seeking a Program Fellow for a fixed, two-year term . The Program Fellow will support the Recover Up Portfolio, which aims to increase economic opportunity and mobility. The Program Fellow will support grantmaking, lead project management, and contribute to program strategy and learning, working closely with the Managing Director who leads the Portfolio. The Program Fellow will display a deep commitment to equity and will be both a strategic thinker and collaborative operator. Organized with strong attention to detail and capable of effectively prioritizing and actioning inbound requests. As a rapidly growing pooled fund with an ambitious vision, all staff must be comfortable with change and actively seek to help each other. The Program Fellow will help expand FWF’s capacity during a period of increased grantmaking. This field will also provide professional development opportunities for individuals seeking to learn about and enter the philanthropy field. Responsibilities (including but not limited to) Supports grantmaking and leads project management for a large‑scale initiative. Working closely with the Managing Director of Programs and in collaboration with our close partners, supports the implementation of one of our $50+ million Portfolios focused on delivering uplifting careers, including a growing workstream focused on Workers Thriving in the AI era. Leads initiative project management: In close partnership with the Managing Director of Programs, contributes to designing and executing project management to ensure outcomes and impacts of initiatives are met. Builds effective timelines/processes for deliverables and coordinates external partners and resources needed to deliver on time and on budget. Improves systems and infrastructure for tracking action items, workstream progress, and impact. Manages project‑based consultants as assigned. Supports grantmaking and grantee partners: Contributes to scoping prospective grantees and partnerships within the initiative, including by analyzing key dimensions of the organization being considered for funding (e.g., impact strategy, track record, leadership, finances, centering of equity, and potential risks). Participates in review of potential and prospective grantees including by rating applications, participating in grantee interviews, learning calls, and reference checks. Leads grant administration including by coordinating outcomes and activities, collecting data, and ensuring deadlines are met in close collaboration with the Managing Director, Senior Project Manager, and operations team. Meeting management: Manages program meetings as requested and in coordination with the operations team, including prospective grantee calls, webinars, or outreach sessions, including managing action items and follow‑ups, creating agendas, managing and tracking invitations, and facilitation. Programmatic strategy, research, and deliverables Initiative research: Conduct literature reviews, policy analysis, desk research, and attend virtual briefings/webinars to support the strategy development of new initiatives—for example, review the existing research on sectors and jobs likely to be impacted by automation and implications for job training and employer engagement strategies. Synthesizes research, data, and learnings to produce insights for high‑quality written documents and presentations. Communicates key learnings and outcomes to staff, co‑funders, and other stakeholders. Drafts memos and presentations: Contributes to drafting memos, external presentations, and other materials about the Fund’s program strategy and impacts. Drafts field research, briefings, and presentations on key issues impacting our work and opportunities. Occasionally interacts with co‑funders. Presents program updates and learnings at Advisory Board and/or other funder meetings. Other duties as assigned Supports Program Team activities and special projects: As needed, leads or participates in projects that may have tight deadlines or involve complex, high‑stakes partnerships. Contributes to and participates in organization‑wide activities, professional development, conferences, and retreats. Minimum Requirements At least 5 to 7 years of experience in a relevant field, including a minimum of 2 years managing a complex project or initiative. Excellent organizational skills and project management skills. Flexible and able to multitask, with demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities across competing demands. Excellent and proactive communication skills, both verbal and written. Proficiency writing high‑quality memos, concept notes, and/or presentations for a variety of audiences. Ability to take initiative, think strategically, and work collaboratively with grantees, FWF staff, and other external partners. Comfort working in a startup environment with many competing priorities and deadlines. Proficiency in Excel and Word and/or Google Workspace. Comfort learning and utilizing new technology that may help the team better administer or streamline our work. Knowledge of Google Apps, SurveyMonkey, and virtual meeting tools. Values and seeks to advance FWF values in the workplace. Team player who is highly collaborative with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively and build effective relationships across a diverse team; inclusive and considers staff who may not be present or considered. Must be available to work U.S. Eastern Time Zone from 9 am to 5 pm. Must have regular and dependable internet access. Desired Qualifications Understands the issues the Families and Workers Fund impacts—including economic opportunity, economic justice, community economic development, workforce development, technology and artificial intelligence, and/or driving successful partnership development with business and government leaders—gained through education and training, professional experience, and/or lived experience. Solutions and action‑oriented, curious and enjoys learning new things. Strong skills in Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Presentations) and virtual meeting tools. Experience with the economic opportunity field, philanthropy, and/or the nonprofit sector. Familiarity with grantmaking processes and fiscal sponsorship models. Salary, Benefits, Location, and Eligibility The starting salary for this position is $95,000 - $110,000 commensurate with experience. Benefits, including 100% employer‑paid medical, dental, and vision plans, generous paid time off, remote work stipend, and matching retirement benefit. This position is housed within Assets Under Movement, the fiscal sponsor to Families and Workers Fund. This opportunity is a remote position open to all candidates eligible to work in the United States and able to work in the U.S. Eastern Time Zone. Full time, exempt. Travel Requirements This role requires domestic travel (approximately four trips per year) to support Families and Workers Fund’s events including board meetings and team retreats.
