Summary

The Crabtree Center for Student Wellbeing of Washington & Jefferson College, within the Division of Student Life, offers free and confidential individual and group mental health counseling and a variety of psychological, developmental, and connection-based programs for all W&J students. The goal of the center is to empower each student to engage in the process of self-discovery, purpose, and authentic living to create an enduring culture of resilience and personal growth.

Reporting to the Director for the Crabtree Center for Student Wellbeing, the Wellbeing Counselor and Coordinator provides short-term mental health counseling services, crisis intervention, and wellness education to support the overall wellbeing of W&J students. The role involves the use of clinical skills and the ability to collaborate with campus partners to foster a healthy, inclusive, and supportive campus environment, enabling students to thrive academically and personally. In the Director's absence, this role will also function as a second-in-command for the Center if licensure requirements and professional skills are met.

Duties and Responsibilities

Mental Health Counselor (60% of position)

• Provide confidential, culturally sensitive, integrative mental health counseling for a range of psychological, emotional, and interpersonal issues for 12-15 clients per week.
• Respond to mental health emergencies during office hours and coordinate with after-hours crisis resources as needed.
• Consult with faculty, staff, students and students' families related to clinical care as needed.
• Maintain accurate, confidential records in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
• Assess student needs and make appropriate referrals to campus or community partners as needed.
• Participate in weekly individual or group supervision and consultation with individual clinical supervisor or Director, depending on licensure requirements.

Wellbeing Coordinator (30% of position)

• Assist the Director with strategizing and promoting a campus-wide culture of wellbeing and authentic and healthy living to students, staff, and faculty.
• Develop collaborative relationships with various campus organizations including within the Division of Student Life, student clubs and organizations, student leaders (SGA, RAs, Links), and faculty.
• Plan and execute 2-3 outreach programs per month including wellbeing workshops, suicide prevention programs, tabling events, and collaborative events.
• Promote and market the BetterMynd telemental health platform to students, staff, and faculty with the goal of a 10% adoption increase within the first year.
• Assist with the management of the Center's social media including promotion of events and services and informational and educational posts.

General Campus Involvement (10% of position)

• Serve on a campus committee.
• Class, club, or athletic team visitations.
• Participate in weekly staff meetings and college-wide or division-wide meetings and events.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Earned advanced degree (MA, MS, MSW, MFT) in counseling, clinical, marriage and family, social work or other closely related mental health profession from an accredited program.
• Licensed or license eligible in Pennsylvania (LPC, LCSW, LMFT).
• A minimum of 2 years providing clinical counseling services.
• Experience with and enthusiasm for working with traditional-aged college students.

Supervisory Duties

In the Director's absence, this role will also function as a second-in-command for the Center if licensure requirements and professional skills are met.
