Physical Therapist Regular Full-Time; Islandia, NY, US Salary Range: $75,000 to $85,000 Annually Helen Keller Services (HKS) has been committed to improving the lives of individuals who are blind, visually impaired, or have combined hearing and vision loss. HKS serves in the New York City/Long Island area from its headquarters in Brooklyn and the Helen Keller National Center for Deaf-Blind Youth and Adults in Sands Point, New York, with a network of regional offices that extends HKS\' reach across the United States. Helen Keller Services for the Blind is expanding its Children\'s Learning Center to two brand-new Long Island locations in Nassau and Suffolk County. These facilities will serve preschool children who are blind or have low vision, as well as multiple disabilities, autism, Down syndrome, or pervasive developmental delays. This expansion reflects HKSB\'s commitment to ensuring Long Island families have access to high-quality early education and support services. We currently have an opening for a Physical Therapist in our soon-to-open Suffolk County Preschool, located in Islandia, NY. The Physical Therapist provides one-to-one and/or group sessions with preschool children whose IEPs mandate physical therapy sessions. Specific responsibilities : Record daily session notes into the appropriate system. Compose and submit all Children\'s Learning Center Quarterly and Annual Reports according to deadlines. Participate in weekly team meetings and all full staff meetings. Maintain a professional demeanor and contribute to the upkeep of personal and shared workspaces. Explain, demonstrate, provide instruction, and reinforce Physical Therapy goals to both the student\'s parents and in-classroom staff. Work collaboratively with fellow therapists, teachers, and the school principal to incorporate monthly curriculum themes into therapy sessions. Key elements of therapy sessions include: Student\'s gross motor skills, including range of motion and weight bearing. Use of assistive devices, including fit and adjustment of equipment, gait training, and equipment management. Gross motor therapeutic interventions that are active and passive (range of motion and weight bearing). Participation in Orthotic Clinics. Use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices. Commitment to students and their families as shown by: Respecting the rights of each student\'s family to participate in decisions regarding assessment and instructional programs. Facilitating each student\'s independence and problem solving in gross motor, sensory processing, self-care, and executive functioning skills. Communicating regularly with families via digital platforms or other means; respond to parent inquiries in a timely manner. The incumbent must maintain a professional demeanor at all times and contribute to the upkeep of personal and shared workspace. All staff must complete the 5-hour Health and Safety Training and the 2-hour Mandated Reporter Training; these pre-service trainings count toward the total training hours required within the first six months. Within the first six months, staff must complete a total of 15 hours of approved training. Following the initial six months, staff are required to complete 15 hours of approved training annually, totaling a minimum of 30 hours every two years. The position requires registration every 3 years with the New York State Office of Professions. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor or Director of the Department. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Master\u2019s or Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy from a college accredited in the field. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and school-related applications, including Class Dojo and student information systems. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Registration every 3 years with the New York State Office of Professions. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Frequently lift and/or move children up to 50 pounds; safely move children into and out of adaptive equipment, wheelchairs, and strollers.
