Field Technician

This role focuses on installing, calibrating, and maintaining sewer flow and rainfall monitoring equipment in the field to support accurate environmental data collection and help prevent community flooding. You work as part of a crew, traveling to various sites, performing hands-on installation and testing tasks, and ensuring all work meets established quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Install flow monitors within sewer systems and ensure proper placement and secure installation.
• Install rainfall monitoring equipment at designated locations to support accurate data collection.
• Calibrate flow monitors to ensure precise measurement and reliable performance.
• Collect sewer flow and rainfall data, review the information for accuracy, and document findings in an organized manner.
• Operate and maintain flow monitors, rainfall gauges, and related field equipment to ensure continuous, reliable operation.
• Inspect manholes manually and with telemonitoring equipment to assess conditions and verify equipment status.
• Conduct flow isolations, smoke testing, dye water flooding, and site inspections to identify issues and support system diagnostics.
• Maintain accurate, legible, and organized records in accordance with all quality work instructions and internal procedures.
• Maintain vehicles and equipment to ensure safety, mechanical soundness, and productive operation.
• Adhere to all safety procedures and company policies and procedures at all times, especially when working in and around sewage and hazardous gases.
• Travel regularly to job sites and work overtime hours as required by project needs.
• Complete all required internal training modules and continuously follow updated work instructions.
• Use impact drills, hammer drills, Bosch drills, and other hand tools safely and effectively during installation and maintenance work.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on field experience in construction or environmental work.
• Ability to perform physical, general labor tasks such as lifting, carrying, and working in confined spaces and outdoor environments.
• Experience with installation work, including using hand tools and power tools such as impact drills, hammer drills, and Bosch drills.
• Basic plumbing or construction skills relevant to installing equipment in manholes and sewer systems.
• Ability to accurately collect, review, and document environmental and site data.
• Strong attention to safety procedures, including working around sewage and potentially hazardous gases.
• Willingness and ability to travel between multiple sites over a wide geographic area.
• Flexibility to work early morning shifts and overtime as needed.
• Capability to work effectively as part of a field crew and follow detailed instructions.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Prior environmental field technician, field service, or site monitoring experience.
• Experience with environmental monitoring, sewer systems, or flood prevention projects.
• Familiarity with smoke testing, dye water flooding, and flow isolation techniques.
• Comfort working outdoors in varied weather conditions, including rain.
• Ability to maintain organized records and follow formal quality work instructions.
• Strong problem-solving skills when equipment issues arise in the field.

Work Environment

You work as part of a field crew, traveling to different sites across a wide area, including locations from Santa Rosa to Fresno. The typical shift runs from 4:00 AM to 12:30 PM, with the need to be flexible to start as early as 12:00 AM or as late as 6:00 AM, and overtime may be required. You frequently work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including rain, and spend time in and around manholes and sewer systems where exposure to sewage and potentially hazardous gases is possible. Ventilation and protective suits are provided to mitigate these hazards. You use impact drills, hammer drills, Bosch drills, and other hand tools, and all necessary equipment is supplied. Per diem and overnight stay expenses are covered when traveling to distant sites, and you are expected to maintain vehicles and equipment in safe, working condition.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $52000.00 - $52000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
