Certified Nursing Assistant Requirements

• Current New York State Nursing Assistant Certification
• At least 1 year of Certified Nursing Assistant or long-term care experience
• Must have held the required nursing assistant certification for at least 1 year
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or RQI
• Ability to provide safe, respectful, age-appropriate care to adult and geriatric residents
• Ability to work variable day and evening shifts, weekends, and holidays as scheduled
• Ability to perform duties involving potential exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues while following safety and infection-control procedures

CNA Responsibilities

• Provide direct and indirect resident care under the direction of licensed nursing personnel and within the CNA scope of practice.
• Assist residents with activities of daily living, including bathing, hygiene, grooming, dressing, incontinence and catheter care, toileting, turning, positioning, and skin care.
• Respond promptly to call lights and alarms while maintaining a safe, clean, and comfortable resident environment.
• Support fall-prevention and behavior-management measures, use safety equipment appropriately, and report equipment concerns.
• Assist with meal delivery, tray preparation, adaptive equipment, feeding, nourishment, and honoring resident preferences and choices.
• Support restorative and rehabilitative needs, including range-of-motion activities, ambulation, transfers, proper body alignment, and use of assistive devices.
• Observe and promptly report changes in residents’ physical, emotional, behavioral, or psychosocial condition to the charge or supervising nurse.
• Report resident rights concerns, refusals, and other care issues in accordance with established procedures.
• Complete accurate and timely documentation according to facility policies and resident care plans.
